The HudsonAlpha Institute for Biotechnology (www.hudsonalpha.org) is a non-profit organization with the mission to use biotechnology and basic biological research to make important discoveries, improve human health, stimulate economic development, inspire young people to seek careers in science and teach members of the public the importance of science in their everyday lives. Located in Cummings Research Park in Huntsville, Alabama, one of the world's leading science and technology parks, HudsonAlpha's campus contains state-of-the-art laboratories for biological research and development, as well as education, in the areas of genomics, genetics and personalized medicine.
The Office of Advancement is responsible for all aspects of fundraising for the Institute's missions, inclusive of major gifts, annual giving, special events, planned giving, foundation grants, workplace giving, and stewardship.
The Director of Annual and Planned Giving is responsible for Annual Giving, Legacy Giving, employee Giving and annual fundraising events.
JOB SPECIFIC TASKS
Develop, manage and execute a comprehensive Annual Giving Program (mailings, appeals, stewardship, solicitation of individuals and corporate leaders/decision-makers).
Promote and solicit other planned gifts such as stock and property.
Serve as a liaison with volunteers and provide volunteer coordination at events
Develop materials and a strategy for Employee Giving.
Seek sponsorships for fundraising events.
Engage in donor cultivation and stewardship at events
Maintain ongoing relationships with prospects, with the goal of securing commitments of participation or donation.
Provide any monthly, bi-weekly or weekly reports as requested by the Advancement Strategy Team.
Track progress of fund-raising goals.
Coordinate efforts with teams for success (i.e. Advancement, Marketing & Communications, Research)
Perform other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND REQUIRED SKILLS EXPERIENCE
Education and Experience -
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
A minimum of 5 years of experience in fundraising.
Required Skills -
A track record of establishing successful sustainable fundraising programs, including a demonstrated history of initiating and implementing both donor stewardship and prospect cultivation programs.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Skilled at public speaking.
Experience managing fundraising campaigns, including capital campaigns.
Knowledge of donor database systems.
Certification as a Fund Raising Executive and/or continuing professional education preferred.
