iRest Institute, a California-based not-for-profit, is seeking to hire a remote or local Director of Philanthropy to join our small but high-functioning and committed team. We are looking for a self-motivated but collaboration-oriented individual who is ready to bring iRest Institute’s fundraising capacity to the next level.
The Director of Philanthropy will develop a formalized fundraising program and oversee all philanthropy efforts of iRest Institute with a goal of bringing in $250,000+ per year in support of the mission and vision of the organization. The Director will work with all levels of staff, the Executive Committee, the Board of Directors, iRest Institute customers and community members, large donors, corporations, foundations, and the general public.
Key Metrics The Director of Philanthropy is responsible for:
Raising >$250,000 in donations in year one. Fundraising targets will increase as the program matures.
Developing and retaining donors for a variety of programs as outlined below.
In collaboration with iRest Institute’s Executive Committee, create and implement a fundraising program and execute an annual strategy to meet overall business goals and objectives, with programs including but not limited to:
Monthly and annual giving
Corporate and foundation grants
Donor recognition and awards programs
Adjust strategies based on testing and metrics to maximize results
Coordinate and work closely with the Executive Committee on matters relating to major gift cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship
Develop, manage, and maintain procedures and standards, gift acceptance policies, internal controls, and schedules for fundraising
Coordinate forecasts, budgets, materials, finances, and other requirements to support efficient and successful fundraising efforts
Manage the organization and maintenance of donor records and files as necessary, including the management of donor-specific software systems
Recruit new fundraising personnel as required in coordination with the Executive Director
Recruit, manage, and coordinate the development of volunteer leadership in all areas of fundraising
Research, explore, design, and manage an educational program for donors, members, volunteers and the general public regarding the benefits of donating and major gifts, including charitable giving in their financial and estate plans
Stay informed of the development of, and changes in, tax law as well as new and complex financial vehicles relative to planned giving
Consult, collaborate and cooperate with all staff and the Board of Directors as needed
Provide training, coaching, and support to other directors, managers, the Board, select volunteers, and staff regarding fundraising and their respective roles
Represent the organization at public and organizational functions and one-on-one meetings, remotely or traveling as needed
Build and maintain relationships with key members of the community
Provide analysis, reviews, and reports on the effectiveness of giving programs and initiatives
Other duties as assigned
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills—verbal and written
Demonstrated financial analysis and budgeting skills
High level of knowledge and skill in public relations and marketing
Excellent organizational skill and detail orientation, with the ability to maintain a big picture perspective and a sense of humor
Ability to be interchangeably action-oriented, flexible, and patient
Strong team orientation, team participation, and leadership skills
Knowledge and skill in long-range and strategic planning
High degree of emotional intelligence and maturity—demonstrating adaptability, engagement and enthusiasm
G-Suite, Excel, Salesforce, and other web-based computer skills
Knowledge and skills with donor-tracking software, donor databases, and wealth-screening software
Knowledge of and appreciation for iRest Institute’s programs, philosophy, mission, and vision
Required Education and Experience
A Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, public relations, communications or related field. Master’s degree preferred
At least five years of successful fundraising experience at a senior level in the not-for-profit sector and a proven track record of significant accomplishment
This is a full-time position with the option to work either remotely or in our home office in downtown San Rafael, CA. Occasional travel will be required to attend job-related functions off-site, or for home-office events if working remotely.
Salary commensurate with experience.
