The West Virginia University Foundation is seeking an experienced fundraiser to serve as a Director of Development in the Medicine and Health Sciences Office of Philanthropy. The Director will be responsible for assigned development activities for the School of Nursing and School of Public Health.
They will manage a portfolio (for both Schools) of Major Gift prospects and donors by working with the WVU Foundation from initial qualification, to cultivation, solicitation and stewardship. Many of the prospective donors reside in West Virginia and the surrounding states. Some donors may be grateful patients of WVU Medicine.
The Director will work closely with the Deans of Nursing and Public Health, along with the WVU Foundation, to assist in implementing the Units’ comprehensive development plan. The plans include: identification of potential donors, determining levels of support, and matching prospect interest with funding priorities at the major gift level (currently $50,000+).
A bachelor’s degree and at least 3 years of progressive development experience is required. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in higher education or hospital fundraising. Strong written, verbal, organization, and interpersonal skills are required.
The successful candidate will be self-motivated and possess the ability to work as a team member within a complex organization requiring collaboration, teamwork, and communication. The position requires frequent regional and often overnight travel.
