Under the direction of the President/CEO, the Vice President (VP) of Development drives the fundraising strategy for Aviva, ensuring the implementation, management and reporting of individual fundraising goals, management of grant-writing activities and production of special events. A highly external position, The VP of Development is also responsible for cultivating relationships with prospective and current donors as well as auxiliary groups.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Development Strategy
Creates, implements and manages annual fund-raising goal through events, grants, individual campaigns, and corporate relationships.
Creates and implements Aviva’s annual development plan including the solicitation of donors and identification of funding sources such as grants, in-kind donations, charitable events and marketing opportunities.
Develops and sustains a moves management structure to effectively move donors through a meaningful cycle of giving.
Identifies, cultivates and creates new relationships with foundations and corporations to increase support for Aviva by 5% each year.
Works with finance and program teams to ensures that designated funds are used as intended by the solicitation or donor.
Creates and implements a donor acknowledgment system that ensures all donors receive a formal agency thank you with all applicable tax information in a timely manner.
Coordinate in-kind donations with the Director of Support Services.
Provides leadership to the Development team, ensuring that strategy and metrics are shared, met, and consistently reported upon.
Participates as a key member of the senior leadership team.
Performs managerial duties including interviewing and hiring staff, assigning and reviewing progress of work assignments and projects; conducting performance reviews and recommending increases; and developing the skills of staff.
Staffs the Resource Development Committee (RDC). Provides the RDC with accurate and timely data about current and projected development revenue. Create the draft agenda and draft board report for the RDC Co-Chairs.
Ensures adequate volunteers to support agency programs and initiatives.
Develops and grows the donor base, focusing on identifying, prospecting, soliciting, stewarding and upgrading donor gifts (including individual, major and planned gifts, and corporate partnerships).
Develops and implements a comprehensive moves management system for donors.
Oversees the creation of content of all Public Relations materials, (newsletters, Annual Report, video’s, website, Social Media etc.)
Increases knowledge of philanthropic giving trends through reading, conferences and philanthropic associations.
Cultivates relationships with existing donors and board members.
Provides and arranges tours for high profile prospective donors and/or volunteers.
At least 5 years’ experience in fundraising focused on individual and institutional giving, grant writing, public relations and marketing, donor relations management systems and gift processing.
Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations or relevant field. Master’s degree a plus or equivalent professional experience.
Excellent written, interpersonal, and verbal communication skills.
Demonstrated excellence in organizational, managerial, and communication skills.
Must be computer savvy and proficient in using CRMs.
Skilled in working effectively with high profile donors and organizations.
