Department Description University Development’s purpose is to support the mission of the university by raising private resources from alumni, friends, and other constituents to enhance financial support for students, faculty, programs, and facilities. University Development provides leadership and centralized development services to the 30+ other development shops across campus, serving as a focal point for principal/major gifts, gift planning, annual giving efforts, prospect development, corporate and foundation relations, stewardship, and communications.
Position Description The primary purpose of this position is to oversee and manage several key areas in the Office of Gift Services including the day-to-day operations of revenue processing. This position will supervise a team of four revenue specialists that will have responsibilities for various schools, units and foundations across campus. This position will oversee and manage inquiries from customers, including development colleagues and donors, related to gifts of stock and cash wires, gift designations, receipting, gift-making instructions, giving histories, recognition programs, tributes, etc. This position will also serve as the key liaison to development officers and staff within the schools and units throughout UNC Chapel Hill regarding donors’ gifts, fielding inquiries, researching discrepancies, and correcting or elevating to the director as necessary. This position will require knowledge of CASE Reporting Standards and Management Guidelines as well as Internal Revenue Service rules and regulations on charitable contributions to effectively and correctly research and answer customer questions as well as to manage the gift process.
This position is also responsible for several Gift Services operations including oversight of pledge/commitment administration, the reminder processes, gift receipting, departmental documents, and large batch review/committal process. Additionally, this position will monitor and implement PCI-Compliance trainings and reviews with development staff.
This position will serve as assistant director, managing the Gifts Services department in the director’s absence including, but not limited to, assisting in high-level donor conversations, handling general ledger/designation/account issues, and review of large and complicated gifts.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements Bachelor’s degree in business administration, public administration, or related business area; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Essential Skills, Knowledge and Abilities The person in this position must possess proven leadership and management skills, a high level of professionalism, customer service, attention for detail, ability to manage multiple, high-level tasks at once, and a thorough knowledge of gift-related issues. An excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office is essential.
The person in this position must have knowledge and understanding of CASE Reporting Standards and Management Guidelines as well as Internal Revenue Service rules and regulations on charitable contributions.
Preferred Qualifications Preferred qualifications include previous experience in higher education or other non-profit setting.
