Reporting directly to the Executive Director (“ED”), the Director of Development serves as a member of the senior leadership team. Working closely with the Board of Directors and staff, s/he will hold primary responsibility for creating and managing a multi-year fund development plan designed to meet the organization’s annual contributed income budget (approximately $1M) through the solicitation of major gifts, corporate and foundation support, federal and state grants, and special events. It is expected that the amount raised by Genesys Work National Capital Region (GWNCR) will increase in future years as the Director of Development systematically and effectively strengthens the organization's overall fundraising capacity. Institutional gifts currently account for 90% of contributed income; the goal is to increase individual giving to represent 30% of contributed income over the next five years.
Hold organizational responsibility for the success of fundraising programs, including, foundation and corporate giving, government grants, special events, and individual giving; Develop and lead a comprehensive, multi-year development plan to strengthen how GWNCR implements development, and development best practices, across all levels of the organization
Expand a well-established institutional (foundations, corporations, government) giving program; identify top individual and institutional gift prospects who can advance funding priorities through annual and multi - year
Build an individual giving program and ensure that individual and major donor cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship best practices are institutionalized within the development department;
Work in close partnership with the Executive Director, the National Development Team, and all board members to build the Board’s capabilities in individual and institutional donor engagement, solicitation, and stewardship.
Assume clear responsibility for meeting or exceeding budgeted revenue goals
Work in collaboration with the Genesys Works National Marketing team to increase local online media presence.
Working with the ED and the Corporate Partnerships team, co-design a multi-year, corporate partnership strategic plan to increase the number of partners engaging in both earned and contributed revenue by 30%.

Five to seven years of professional experience in a development role in a nonprofit organization;
Demonstrated success in growing a development function
