SUMMARY: The Development Director provides support to, and works in partnership with, the Executive Director to create and implement the fundraising, marketing and strategic planning for the organization. This position is responsible for all facets of fundraising and donor cultivation to increase financial support for the organization, and specific areas of marketing and outreach to grow the organizational brand and visibility in the community.

Develops, implements and supervises all areas of strategic and organizational fundraising, including donor stewardship, grant writing, planned giving, events, and other fundraising activities.
Works with Executive Director and the Board of Directors to develop and achieve key fundraising targets, monitor progress and achieve annual revenue goals.
Supports the Executive Director in development, strategic marketing, and branding of the organization to raise community awareness about the organization.
Oversees and develops the use of the database as a sophisticated donor relationship and analytical tool, as well as a transactional record of donor activity.
Plays a key role in the planning and execution of fundraising events to include oversight of both logistical and administrative support and onsite participation.
EXPERIENCE, ABILITIES AND QUALITIES REQUIRED:
Three years of experience in progressively successful fund development work.
Effective written and verbal communication skills. Ability to communicate with donors, the public, volunteers and co-workers in a pleasant, courteous and tactful manner at all times.
Polished public speaking skills.
Enthusiasm for networking, human interaction and socializing one-on-one and in groups.
Respect, compassion, and affection for animals, concern for their welfare, and a willingness to accommodate animals in the work place.
Ability to always promote a humane and caring attitude toward all animals.
Strong work ethic, customer service orientation and initiative, self-motivated, able to work with minimal supervision.
Experience working in a team environment and supervising volunteers.
Ability to exercise discretion and judgement.
Computer proficient with Microsoft Suite, Donation Database Applications, and Adobe Creative Suite; ability to learn new programs as required. Internet savvy.
Must have a valid Driver’s License and be in good standing with Department of Motor Vehicles.

The Animal Shelter Assistance Program (ASAP) celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2019. The mission of the ASAP is to save the lives of cats in Santa Barbara County by providing shelter, veterinary care, behavioral support, adoption and foster services, education and community outreach.
In support of the primary goals stated above, ASAP also seeks to:
Maximize community involvement through volunteerism and outreach.
Reduce the population of stray, homeless, and feral cats through adoption, spay/neuter and Trap-Neuter-Return programs, redemption, foster care, and educational programs.
Form strong partnerships with Santa Barbara County Animal Services and other animal welfare groups to promote animal welfare and related causes.
ASAP relies on donations and grants to secure its future and its unique programs, now and for decades to come.
