INTRODUCTION Under the direction of the Vice President, External Affairs, the Fund Development Manager has primary responsibility for managing and implementing institutional fund development efforts, overseeing the execution of assigned fundraising events/campaigns, and supporting other fund development, communications, research, and public engagement efforts as assigned.
Grant Writing/Grants Management
Manages and/or implements the writing and submission of grant proposals, letters of interest/inquiry, grant applications, and reports, as well as other documents related to funding requests, with support from program staff and finance department.
Collaborates with leadership and other Melwood divisions/departments to develop program descriptions and to articulate clear, compelling, and measurable cases for support from governmental agencies, corporations, and foundations.
Maintains and updates the institutional knowledge of Melwood’s financial needs, which could be met through various funding opportunities.
Monitors fundraising trends and governmental policies, and conducts ongoing research and prospecting to determine the availability of governmental funds and the strongest prospects for funding opportunities.
Reviews all grant opportunities and works collaboratively with program staff, finance, and other staff to assess viability of grant opportunities, ensure they are consistent with Melwood’s mission and goals, and formulates a strategy to produce a competitive response.
Develops and manages a diversified network of funding organizations and community partners.
Coordinates with staff from Community Services Division and Melwood Veterans Services to develop work plans and schedules for awarded grants to ensure deliverables and outcomes are achieved. Works with communication staff to ensure communications deliverables and expectations for funder recognition are met.
Develops cultivation/stewardship strategies for potential and existing funders.
Development Office Administration
Develops, implements, and updates administrative policies and procedures that address grant development and management, as well as logistical tasks associated with fundraising events.
Assists Vice President of External Affairs, in preparing documentation, i.e., agendas, reports, and metrics, for Fund Development Committee Meetings.
Supports the Fund Development Committee, by attending committee meetings, keeping members informed of Melwood’s fund development activities, and preparing documentation, i.e., minutes, agendas, reports, and other forms of communication, for committee meetings.
Works with program and finance staff to track grant expenditures.
Develops departmental budgets, including forecasted revenue and projected expenditures.
Organizes and manages grants documentation for annual audits and tax documentation.
Develops and maintains fund development calendar that includes deadlines for grants; sponsorships; reports; funding applications; and registrations for partnerships.
Spearheads other development projects as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree in Communications, English, professional writing or other relevant field.
Ten (10) years of professional fund development experience with a minimum of seven (7) years of grant writing experience.
Outstanding grant-writing and research skills

Highly-organized with great attention to details
Demonstrated track record of raising on average of $500,000 in donations a year
Proficient with MS Office and donor databases
Must have a valid driver’s license with clean driving record
