Reporting to the Senior Director of Major Gifts, Gift Planning, and Prospect Research, the Major Gift Officer manages a portfolio and is responsible for discovery, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of major gift prospects ($100,000 and above) within specified regions. The Major Gift Officer collaborates with the Senior Director, Vice President, and colleagues in Development and Alumni Engagement on donor engagement strategy and initiatives. May be located in Farmville, VA or a major metropolitan area in the Mid-Atlantic or Southeast.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 5+ years of fundraising experience required. Familiarity with Hampden-Sydney College or similar private institution highly desirable. Must have impeccable customer service skills as well as excellent interpersonal skills, sound judgement, ability to operate in a nuanced environment, and ability to maintain highest levels of confidentiality are essential. Must be a results-driven and possess the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment, have high degree of initiative and commitment to excellence, and be highly collaborative and disciplined, as well as detail and results-oriented. Exceptional professional relationship, communication, and analytical skills are a necessity. Exceptional technical skills, particularly in MS Office and CRMS (constituent relations management systems). Creativity, adaptability, diplomatic skills, and sense of humor expected. Frequent travel is required, as well as the ability to represent Hampden-Sydney College effectively at events and in the community through sound judgement and exceptional decorum.
