AltaMed Health Services
AltaMed Institute of Health Equity AltaMed Health Services is one of the largest nonprofit federally qualified health centers in the U.S., serving over 300,000 residents at 43 sites located throughout underserved communities of Los Angeles and Orange Counties in Southern California. Since 1969 the organization has provided a comprehensive range of primary care, dental, specialty care, youth, and enabling services for low income minority populations, including pediatric and seniors. With a commitment to social justice and the understanding that Federally Qualified Health Centers such as AltaMed have a significant role in achieving health equity, in 2017, the AltaMed Institute for Health Equity was launched. Through innovation and community engagement, the work of the Institute is to study a wide array of health problems that disproportionately affect racial and ethnic groups, including addressing the multiple determinants of health which lead to disparities in clinical outcomes. Through grant-funded translational research, Institute leadership will develop evidence-based strategies to improve patient care. The Institute currently manages over $100 million in grant funds, with an average of $15 million annually in new grant funds.
