BBB Institute for Marketplace Trust, Arlington, VA
The BBB Institute for Marketplace Trust, the 501(c)(3) foundation of the Better Business Bureau, seeks a seasoned professional to build relationships with corporate decision makers to secure multi-year gifts to support BBB programs. This position will work closely with the executive director to cultivate new restricted and unrestricted funding to support BBB Institute’s mission to educate and protect consumers, establish best practices for businesses, and solve complex marketplace problems.
This position reports to Melissa Trumpower, Executive Director, BBB Institute
Cultivate a portfolio of prospective corporate partners that will align with the BBB brand and BBB Institute’s mission and programs.
Secure new restricted and unrestricted annual revenue in excess of $1M in support of BBB Institute strategic priorities.
Clearly articulate BBB Institute’s value proposition and take prospects through all phases of the business development cycle, including setting up calls/meetings, developing presentations, budget/proposal development, and contract negotiations.
Coordinate the development, writing, and submission of partnership proposals to corporations and grant proposals to foundations.
Work with local BBBs on regional and local proposals that support building a trustworthy marketplace.
Support fundraising/sponsorship needs of the International Association of Better Business Bureaus.
Proven successful experience of soliciting, managing and securing corporate donations in fundraising, ideally with an international organization.
5 - 10 years fundraising experience required.
A thorough understanding of the essential components of corporate fundraising strategies and proven experience of strategy implementation on an international scale.
Experience in developing briefings, presentations, and customized collateral for prospect partners and in researching opportunities and creating and managing strategies for prospect cultivation and stewardship.
Ability to review current programs and strategize about how to enhance those programs or develop new programs to meet current needs, based on funding opportunities.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Experience building a corporate sponsorship program.
Articulate and comfortable presenting to C-level business representatives.
Self-motivated with ability to work collaboratively with individuals and teams at all levels of the organization; this person will be required to proactively engage local BBBs and help identify local and regional funding opportunities.
An understanding of how to research grant opportunities with foundations and how to submit LOIs and grant applications.
Experience with major gift donations is a plus.
Located in Washington, D.C. metro area.
