The Major Gifts Officer (MGO) plays an integral and leadership role in developing and implementing strategies to identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit, and steward a portfolio of major gift prospects ($5,000+). The MGO is responsible for developing relationships with current and prospective donors to achieve individual and organizational fundraising goals that support the long term health of the organization, both independently and with PPCW executive leadership and Board of Directors. They will represent PPCW through cultivation and stewardship efforts and events, while educating and informing donors regarding PPCW’s programmatic goals, campaigns, and future plans.
Develop and implement strategies to successfully and independently manage a portfolio of 100-125 donors and prospects.
Lead the cultivation and solicitation of a targeted group of leadership donors making annual gifts of $5,000 and more.
Work directly with PPCW’s executive leadership staff and Board of Director volunteers for solicitation or stewardship opportunities, including briefing materials in advance of meetings with donors and prospects.
Direct and inform day-to-day activities for the Major Gifts Assistant.
Conduct regular communications with current and prospective donors through personal meetings, telephone calls, mail and/or email.
Represent PPCW by attending PPCW and external community events throughout Oregon and SW Washington.
Attend events and speaking engagements in place of PPCW executive leadership or Board of Directors as needed.
Partner with the Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) Major Gifts team for joint affiliate-national donor solicitations as they arise.
Develop concepts and messages, write solicitation proposals for individual prospects and donors; oversee preparation of solicitation planning materials for meetings. Prepare agreements.
Collaborate with VP of Development, Director of Development, and other department team members on strategies for major gifts, campaigns, and planned gifts.
Work collaboratively and closely with staff throughout PPCW to coordinate donor site visits, and to compile donor requested information and data
Work closely with PPCW’s Finance department regarding pledge payments and reporting and other financial matters.
Other duties as required to meet organizational and fundraising goals.
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
Three (3) years experience with direct individual face-to-face solicitations within higher education, health care, social service, or similar nonprofit organization.
Proven success in prospect management and individual gift solicitation.
Demonstrated experience working with donor database software.
Demonstrate effective written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
Availability to work flexible hours, including weekends and evenings as required.
Experience with Raiser’s Edge donor database software.
Familiarity with the work of Planned Parenthood, or the reproductive health movement.
Evidence of continuing education in relevant fields.
