Under general supervision of the Development Director, the Leadership Annual Giving Officer works to cultivate, solicit, and steward donors at the $1000+ level. The position is responsible for working through a list of prospects as provided by our research team to solicit funds for general operating support. The Development Officer is part of a team dedicated to strengthening Planned Parenthood’s financial footing and creating a culture of philanthropy throughout the organization. Position also has an emphasis on referring prospects to Major Gift Officers and securing Planned Gifts.
Essential functions and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Develop successful fund development programs that support the ongoing operating budget, including individual donors, event planning and working with identified supporter groups.
Achieve individual annual fundraising goals, including achieving or exceeding a minimum of 200 substantive contacts/personal visits per year.
Organize and implement a plan to qualify, solicit, and steward donors at the $1000+ level through multi-channel engagement efforts.
Implement the strategic plan to grow the sustainer program and identify donors whose giving could be upgraded to this level.
Assist Leadership Annual Giving Director in creating an annual fundraising work plan.
Provide stewardship to group of donors in portfolio giving at leadership levels.
Supports, cooperates with, and implements specific procedures and programs for: safety and security, confidentiality, quality assurance, compliance with current laws and regulations including HIPAA and mandated reporting, and training
Supports and participates in:
Common teamwork; cooperates and works together with all co-workers
Uses tactful, appropriate communications in sensitive and emotional situations demonstrating compassion, empathy and dignity for all
Promotes positive public image and relations of Planned Parenthood North Central States;
Completes requirements for acceptable attendance and timeliness to work, uniform and dress codes including personal hygiene
Performs other work duties as assigned
Work Hours Full-time position working 40 hours per week.
Travel required: statewide in Iowa to visit with donors outside of Des Moines, occasional evenings and weekends for special events.

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work history
One to three years of professional experience in development or a related field (i.e. sales, political organizing).
Willingness and ability to work well with high-level volunteers and collaborate with colleagues across disciplines.
Willingness to do some travel and work some nights and weekend as necessary.
Demonstrated success in raising funds from individual donors, preferably at the $1,000+ level.

Expert ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, and develop and maintain interpersonal relationships, utilizing both discretion and creativity.
