Reporting to the Director of Annual Giving, the Assistant Director of Annual Giving assists with the College’s annual giving programs to include planning and implementing the Annual Fund phonathon and the Faculty/Staff campaign as well as helping to develop the social media strategy for annual giving. In addition, the Assistant Director is responsible for coordinating and helping with direct mail/email appeals for alumni and parents and other marketing materials for advancement-related programs and activities, and soliciting leadership Annual Fund gifts from a specified prospect pool. The Assistant Director will contribute to the overall messaging and marketing efforts to both existing and prospective donors, continually creating a fresh, compelling, and brand-conscious case for support of the College’s giving programs with a particular focus on annual giving, leadership gifts, and student/alumni cultivation.
1. Manage the day-to-day operation, planning, and implementation of the phonathon program(s), including recruiting, supervising, training and coaching of student managers and student callers; developing operational plans, caller training programs and motivational tools; drafting segment-specific scripts and follow up communications; maintaining an effective pledge reminder system; monitoring caller work hours and time sheets; and following up with prospects to answer their questions/respond to their needs. 2. Manage a portfolio of up to 30 annual giving prospects including gift solicitation by telephone. 3. Coordinate and implement the annual Faculty/Staff campaign. 4. Proactively research best practices in the use of social media in fundraising; in conjunction with the Director of Alumni Relations develop a comprehensive social media strategy for annual giving utilizing Facebook, Twitter, blogs, and other social media outlets/platforms. 5. Conceptualize, draft, and finalize direct mail/email appeals and related communications to alumni, including Reunion years, affinity groups, and parents. 6. Assist with planning and implementation of special events for the Annual Fund. 7. Regularly assess communications to key constituents for opportunities to refine and strengthen advancement content and strategy.
EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE AND REQUIREMENTS:
1. Bachelor’s degree required. 2. Minimum of one year of experience in higher education fundraising or equivalent required. 3. Supervisory experience strongly preferred. 4. Computer proficiency (Word, Excel, PowerPoint required; Publisher or similar publication design software preferred). 5. Strong planning and organizational skills with a demonstrated track record of successful gift solicitations. 6. Demonstrated ability to exceed all goals. 7. Web, email, and social media experience required. 8. Experience producing marketing plans and printed and electronic materials for fundraising and stewardship purposes preferred. 9. Excellent written and oral communication skills, creativity, a strong sense of professionalism, ability to manage diverse types of work assignments, and the ability to maintain confidences. 10.
