Founded in 1961, Solomon Schechter Day School of Greater Boston nurtures self-discovery through an innovative and engaging curriculum for children 15 months through eighth grade. With an ambitious strategic vision, Solomon Schechter Day School is looking for a talented individual to lead the school’s approach to fundraising. The Director of Development will work collaboratively with the professional leadership team, Board of Trustees and broader Schechter community to inspire a new level of philanthropy that will help the institution achieve its short and long term dreams. This is a unique career opportunity for a talented individual to build on a strong donor community and help create transformational change at Schechter and in the field of Jewish day schools. The Director of Development will report directly to the Head of School.
Specific responsibilities will include:
Work alongside with the Head of School and Board to determine the long term strategic Development plan in order to support the school’s vision for the future
Be an active contributor to the strategic direction of the school and be able to passionately convey the direction to others
Serve as an internal and external ambassador for the school and as an integral member of the school’s leadership team
Create and manage constituency based strategies (alumni, parents, grandparents, alumni parents, friends) stewarding current donors as well as creating plans to grow beyond the pool of current donors
Establish and manage principal gift strategies for individuals and foundations
Create and manage plans for campaigns including annual, endowment, capital and planned giving
People and Lay Leadership Management
Design and manage a development organizational structure in line with the strategic direction of the school and deploy resources according to organizational needs
Play a critical role in governance - giving input into board agendas, selection of board members, and building relationships with members of the board
Manage two direct reports
Key requirements will include:
Relational - partnering well with various stakeholders and preferably prior experience working with boards (internal to the organization) and foundations (external to the organization)
Management - ability to effectively manage a team by establishing goals (departmental and individual), providing ongoing feedback and coaching and creating measures of accountability
Comfort and engagement with the Jewish community
Written and verbal communication skills
Passionate about education
