The National Disaster Search Dog Foundation (SDF) is seeking a dynamic team player with event planning, fundraising, planned giving and administrative experience and a passion for working with creative people and dogs. This individual should fully embrace SDF’s mission and understand that in this position you will work independently, as well as with our entire team, to manage SDF’s Community Awareness program, event planning and coordination, and support the Development department, specifically in the areas of annual giving, major gifts and planned giving. This is a full-time position based in Santa Paula, CA.
THE MISSION OF THE SEARCH DOG FOUNDATION
Founded in 1996, the National Disaster Search Dog Foundation (SDF) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, non-governmental organization based in Santa Paula, California. Our mission is to strengthen disaster response in America by recruiting and rescuing dogs and partnering them with firefighters and other first responders to find people buried alive in the wreckage of disasters.
The Development Associate works with all SDF staff but primarily in the Development Department, which includes a Director of Development, Philanthropy & Grants Officer, Director of Communications and a Communication Associate. The position is responsible for identifying potential donors and community partners, establish relationships and engage the community while focusing on the mission of the organization. The associate will also be in charge of event planning and implementation, as well as the following areas of responsibility:
Work in active partnership with Development leadership and team members to support, plan, implement, manage and evaluate strategies, initiatives, and projects designed to enhance and advance prospect and donor identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship and successfully move projects to completion;
Oversee event coordination and implementation including National Training Center tours and demonstrations;
Act as the representative for the Search Dog Foundation at community events and demonstrations
Manage and cultivate SDF’s Community Outreach and Awareness Programs to target individuals, businesses and community leaders for support of the organization’s mission
Assist the Director of Development with the SDF Planned Giving Program to help identify, secure and cultivate legacy gifts
Contribute and assist with written materials, editing and proofing to produce marketing and informative publications;
Ensure a high-touch response to supporters and other stakeholders, and deliver high quality customer service to all constituents;
Develop and steward a portfolio of relationships to provide funding for our mission;
Demonstrate integrity, collaboration and stewardship;
Other duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree or higher;
1-2 years of non-profit, fundraising and/or related experience;
Experience in event planning and management in fundraising or a related field
Demonstrates mature judgement, initiative and critical thinking
Ability to manage multiple priorities and demonstrate flexibility
Comfortable with public speaking and presenting information to a group
Maintains a professional appearance, positive attitude and a good sense of humor
Demonstrates strong written and verbal communication skills
Works well in a team-based environment
High degree of proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint);
Experience working with donor database and/or sales related database management;
Experience working in Planned Giving a plus;
Detail oriented and works with a high degree of accuracy;
Ability to meet changing deadlines in a fast-paced environment;
Excellent team player with an outgoing personality;
Ability to both work independently and take direction effectively;
Ability to motivate and build relationships with volunteers and supporters;
Commitment to maintain the highest level of integrity and confidentiality and to advocate for the mission of the Search Dog Foundation
Flexibility and willingness to work evenings, weekends and holidays as necessary;
Passion for working with people and dogs;
Valid driver’s license.
