The Foundation Fighting Blindness is the largest nongovernmental foundation supporting retinal disease research in the world. Over the past four decades, FFB expanded its influence by raising more than $750 million to fund thousands of research studies at prominent institutions worldwide, attracting and investing in the first generation of clinicians and scientists focused on retinal disease research.
We are seeking an experienced and organized DEVELOPMENT MANAGER to be part of our team, based in New York, New York. The ideal candidate will work closely with donors and major gift officers across the country to steward relationships and annual gifts. In collaboration with the region’s Event Managers, serves as key liaison to volunteer leadership in the region.
Provide database entry for the Associate Director, Professional Outreach including Effectively manage a major gifts portfolio of priority prospects and donors by identifying and qualifying prospects, cultivating the relationships, following up, soliciting and closing gifts and stewarding those relationships
Work collaboratively with major gift officers and donors across the nation to steward budgeted major donor gifts each year and continue to strengthen their relationship to the mission of the Foundation Fighting Blindness.
Work with Communications team to develop regular high-level science reviews to send, have frequent interaction with donors, prospects, volunteers and trustees through personal visits and other direct and indirect touchpoints such as phone, e-mail, and other correspondence
Collaborate, motivate and lead as well as partner successfully with staff, board, volunteers, high level donors and regional staff to create new giving opportunities
Set appointments, prepare appropriate materials and proposals, and use the donor database to document critical communications with staff, donors and volunteers
Develop vehicles for frequent interaction with donors, prospects, volunteers and trustees through personal visits and other direct and indirect communication such as phone, e-mail, and other correspondence
Have a general knowledge of the Foundation’s Legacy Giving Program
Work in collaboration with headquarters staff, Event Managers, and volunteers to provide integrated levels of support and interaction with donors and volunteer leadership
Prepare accurate and timely plans, objectives, reports, budgets, forecasts, and projections for purposes of budgetary and financial reports
Actively utilize the database containing donor records and historical gift information
The qualified candidate will possess:
Bachelor’s degree required
5+ years successful experience developing, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding major gift relationship and building the prospect pool.
Demonstrated experience with the management of an annual or special gifts program
Nonprofit experience working with donors required, including the ability to find and create new giving opportunities
Track record of 5- and 6-figure personally solicited individual gifts
Ability to function independently with an assigned group of prospects, yet interact collaboratively with colleagues in a centralized framework of fundraising while participating in and contributing to a total team effort
Interest in making a significant contribution to a recognized world class health and science leadership organization
Genuine interest in and appreciation for the mission
Working knowledge of relational databases. Must be able to utilize the organizational database for retrieval of information and running reports
Strong leadership and management skills
Must have excellent interpersonal and customer service skills, and strong verbal and written communication skills
Must be highly organized, detail-oriented and able to handle multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
A team player with an ability to work independently is required
Must be proactive, enthusiastic and have strong follow-up skills
Requires excellent attendance and must be accountable for quality of work
Fully proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and Outlook)
Knowledge of relational databases is required
Must be able to work a flexible week
Must possess valid driver’s license with driving record acceptable to FFB insurance carrier
Travel required (primarily, but not limited to NY metro area)
