Bay Area Rescue Mission is seeking a VP of Development. The right individual will be a seasoned and innovative fund raiser, highly skilled in relationship cultivation. Highly driven and motivated, able to set and attain aggressive annual goals in order to grow and fund the ministry. The VP of Development is part of the Executive Leadership Team and will lead departmental staff. The right candidate will have a heart for rescue ministry as well as an ability and willingness to share the needs and the life-changing stories with those who want and can participate in the fiscal stability and growth of the ministry. Must be a solid Christian, team player, possess a stewardship mindset, assertive and effective in fundraising, and innovative. Summary of Position:
The Vice-President of Development is responsible to the President/CEO to formulate strategic plans adequate to provide the financial revenue which will meet the budget requirements set forth by the President/CEO. Within budget constraints and the policies and procedures contained within the BARM Employee Handbook, recruit, build, train, and hold accountable the Development Department Team. Effectively communicate the BARM vision and purpose and secure support and resources to fulfill and advance the ministry of the Bay Area Rescue Mission. Upon review and approval of the Development Department strategic plan by the BARM Executive Leadership Team, the VP of Development shall with prayer and dependence on Jesus Christ, implement and ensure the successful fulfillment of the Development Department’s authorized strategic plans. As a VP, be conscientious and intentional as an ambassador for Christ and Bay Area Rescue Mission. The VP of Development is accountable to the President/CEO.
As a member of senior leadership, uphold, promote, and encourage, in word and deed, desired organizational culture and values; purposefully seek to establish and maintain a culture that is based on grace and affirms and advances BARM’s vision and purpose.
Execute a comprehensive development plan and appropriate marketing strategies and tactics to acquire resources.
Increase annual contributions over the next 3 years by a 7.5% increase each year to ensure a net gain of at least 5% over annual expenses.
Participate in timely and accurate reporting according to BARM needs and expectations. Keep CEO and other VPs informed and demonstrate commitment to open communication in an effort to fully participate in organizational problem-solving, decision making, and strategic planning.
Responsible to initiate and participate in hiring, training, evaluating, disciplining, promotion, and dismissal. Work collaboratively with CEO and respective Directors in this regard.
Hire and lead department staff, providing coaching, support, feedback, and accountability consistent with biblical guidelines, to attain goals and standards.
Strategize, manage and coordinate the efforts of Development Staff to ensure all aspects of Development are fully optimized and to achieve aggressive/defined development goals and objectives.
Interface regularly with city, state, national, and international organizations and agencies to increase organizational awareness and standing.
Represent BARM in meeting with potential funding sources.
Maintain knowledge about homeless, rescue, and funding environment on a local and national level.
Speak publicly on the behalf of BARM.
Attend luncheons, dinners, and community events.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
Consummate professional, proven expertise in fundraising planning and execution and leading a team of professional fundraisers
Skilled communicator, possessing strong oral and written abilities:
Able to easily establish rapport with individuals and passionately share the vision and stories of BARM in a way that moves people to support the ministry.
Persuasive writer, able to capture and communicate the factual and emotional aspects of BARM ministry.
Strong knowledge and application of fundraising ethics
Highly ethical with the ability to make smart, timely decisions.
Strong organizational skills, strategic in approach, able to effectively lead people to set and accomplish goals.
Must be highly driven, detailed, and deadline oriented
Good research and resourcing skills, able to identify and acquire new and viable funding sources and to promote the name and purpose of BARM
Strong knowledge of fund development principals
Strong leadership skills, able to effectively train and manage staff to achieve departmental goals, while exhibiting servant leadership.
Computer literate with proficient knowledge of database software required.

Education/Experience and/or Certification:
Minimum bachelor’s degree in a related field and 7-10 years’ experience with growing responsibilities in fundraising, marketing or a related field
Minimum 5 years responsibility in a leadership role
