Compass Regional Hospice located in Centreville, MD seeks a dynamic Director of Institutional Advancement to expand the organization’s funding portfolio. The Director will provide departmental leadership to support the organization’s strategic plan.
The Director of Institutional Advancement will oversee and direct all fundraising, community outreach and public relations/marketing functions. The Director will support the Executive Director and Board of Directors in leveraging every advantage to advance the organization’s financial growth, further promote and market its services, and engage more deeply with high level donors and key community stakeholders.
Responsibilities & Functions:
Serving as its primary major gifts officer, the Director of Institutional Advancement is responsible for cultivating, maintaining, managing and advancing a portfolio individual, family, foundation and corporate donors and prospects.
Serves as a member of the Executive Director’s executive management staff and serves as the staff liaison to the Institutional Advancement Committee of the Board of Directors.
In consultation with the Institutional Advancement team and under advisement of the Executive Director and CFO, craft and support, with quantitative and qualitative data and information, the institution’s Annual Institutional Advancement Plan including proposed expenses against forecast income.
Supervise and mentor Institutional Advancement Team members in order to ensure their individual job responsibility goals, as defined in the Annual Institutional Advancement Plan, are achieved.
As part of this annual income goal, ensure annual goals related to managing are met.
It is expected that the Director of Institutional Advancement will spend 20% of their weekly working hours off site visiting and engaging with external constituencies.
This is a senior staff position requiring a minimum of 8 years of fundraising/marketing experience and demonstrated ability soliciting six figure and above gifts.
Experience with serving as a “trusted advisor” to key senior management team members and the Chair of the Board of Directors.
A track record of excellent supervisory and team mentoring skills including the use of emotional intelligence related to managing staff and engaging with other internal and external constituencies.
A background of working effectively with high-level donors, volunteers, and trustees is essential.
Ability to think creatively, along with enthusiasm and superb verbal and written communication skills.
Can organize and prioritize multiple simultaneous projects successfully
Local/regional travel; evenings and weekend hours expected.
Previous experience in a related healthcare industry desirable but not necessary.
Command of Microsoft Office applications and Raiser’s Edge fundraising system
Bachelor’s Degree; Master’s Degree preferred.
Resident of or familiarity with counties served by Compass Regional Hospice.
