Reporting to the Chief Development Officer (CDO) of the Alpha Chi Omega Foundation, the Advancement Officer is primarily responsible for securing major gifts to the Foundation. This position develops relationships with donors and solicits gifts to the Foundation to further the vision and mission of the Foundation, and to support the educational and philanthropic programs of Alpha Chi Omega Fraternity.
Manages an assigned portfolio of major donors and prospective donors
Develops and executes annual customized individual donor cultivation strategies
Builds relationships with donors with a goal of generating major and planned gifts to the Foundation
Identifies, solicits and stewards members of the Leadership Circle (annual unrestricted gifts of $1,000 or more)
Identifies major donor stories for The Lyre magazine, the Alpha Chi Omega website and other opportunities for donor recognition
Identifies and researches prospective donors in collaboration with Foundation staff
Engages in regular personal communications with donors and prospective donors
Works with Foundation staff to ensure timely stewardship of gifts to the Foundation
As part of the Foundation team, participates in promotion, cultivation and stewardship activities related to special Foundation giving initiatives
Demonstrates a strong understanding of the programs supported by the Foundation
Collaborates with and supports Foundation volunteers in planning and executing customize strategies to cultivate and steward donors
Participates in volunteer recognition activities as requested
Ensures the cost-effective management of Foundation assets and resources
Adheres to travel and entertainment budget parameters and manages communication for expenses exceeding budget parameters prior to committing financial resources
Complies with established administrative processes and procedures for expense reporting, reimbursement requests and timekeeping
Complies with departmental processes and procedures for timely documentation of donor interactions
Manages timely and effective communication with supervisor relevant to issues, concerns and decisions that affect the company
Supports the values-driven organizational culture; contributes to a success-oriented, accountable environment
Represents Alpha Chi Omega professionally and enthusiastically in meetings with current and prospective donors
Stays abreast of trends, innovations, changes and developments in the fundraising industry
Promotes a culture of continuous improvement including identification and implementation of best practices and lessons learned
Guards against any unnecessary organizational risk
Embraces technological and process innovations and seeks ways to improve performance and productivity
Travels regularly to meet with assigned donors and attend Foundation events
Adheres to all policies of the Foundation, as well as the Code of Ethics of the Association of Fundraising Professionals
Communicates, through the appropriate channels, any observations of noncompliance with policies or fundraising ethics that place personnel and the organization at risk
Performs with care any control-related activities required as a function of the position
Five years of professional fundraising experience required, preferably in the area of major gifts, planned giving and/or donor engagement.
Prior experience interacting directly with donors and required
Demonstrated success in cultivating and securing major gifts preferred
Adept at building relationships with various internal and external constituents
Strong service orientation, outstanding presentation skills, professionalism, confidentiality and discretion
Excellent organization skills, self-discipline, attention to detail and communication skills
Ability to thrive in a team-oriented environment
Works with a sense of urgency, able to manage multiple priorities simultaneously in a rapidly changing environment, and excels in a goal-oriented culture
Basic computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office suite required
Telecommuting is allowed.
