GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Support The Citadel Foundation’s mission to secure, manage, and steward philanthropic support for The Citadel. The Assistant Director is specifically charged with providing significant support to class volunteers and developing strategy around engaging this constituency of alumni and garnering their support. This person also manages approximately 100 donor and volunteer prospects through the stages of stewardship, cultivation and solicitation.
REPORTS TO: Director of Annual Giving
SPECIFIC DUTIES INCLUDE:
Class Chair Program • Identify, recruit, train and manage Class Chair volunteers for the purpose of creating class affinity, engagement, and reaching class participation and dollar goals. • Plan, prepare for, hold and follow-up from volunteer calls and meetings. • Devise and execute fundraising strategies for each non-class reunion class and regularly provide updated fundraising information statistics to volunteers through the year. • Conduct peer and aspirant research on ways to increase and expand The Citadel’s class chair program through mini-reunion efforts. • Annual Giving contact for Volunteer Management System implementation, execution and subsequent training. • Coordinate and process biannual Class Chair letters. Work with direct mail house vendor to process all letters.
Parent Philanthropy Program • Oversees development and execution of parent specific solicitation strategy and appeals. • Serves as point of contact between The Citadel and The Citadel Foundation as it pertains to parents. • Work closely with The Citadel Family Association on partnerships and philanthropic education initiatives. • Identify, cultivate and steward parent prospects through an engagement plan to increase parent participation.
Direct Solicitation/Stewardship • Conduct 50 individual meetings with donors annually (with emphasis on leadership donors) for cultivation, solicitation, and/or stewardship purposes. Maintain a precise record of donor contacts through the prospect management system. Prepare prospect plans as appropriate. • This position makes 100+ phone contacts in June to ensure The Citadel maintains an excellent alumni participation rate.
Special Projects • Assists with special projects as assigned by the Director of Annual Giving. Assignments may include planning for annual Giving Day, assistance with campus and foundation events, assistance with affinity projects throughout the year.
Other: Perform additional duties as assigned by the Director of Annual Giving to include special projects to assist in the overall fundraising efforts within the Annual Giving unit, along with unified efforts throughout TCF. Other duties as assigned.
• Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution of higher education / advanced degree preferred • At least one year of experience in development/fundraising • Must possess strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal • Knowledge of personal computer based software (i.e. word processing and spreadsheet applications) • Enthusiasm and excellent people skills are essential. Successful candidate must have flexibility to handle the needs of a fast-paced work environment and the special needs of donors. • Ability to organize and prioritize tasks and to lead and motivate others, especially students, alumni, and volunteers • Familiarity with and affinity for The Citadel and its mission, including its core values of honor, duty and respect • Some evening and weekend work is required
• At least three years of experience in related development/fundraising, preferably within higher education • Experience writing and editing donor-centered fundraising content for a wide range of digital media • Experience with Blackbaud’s Raiser’s Edge • A history of innovative solutions to marketing challenges • Additional experience in fundraising, public relations, and/or marketing
