Founded in 1918, Church Farm School is a uniquely mission-driven Episcopal school providing substantial financial support to a promising and exceptionally diverse group of deserving young men. CFS offers a college preparatory education in a boarding/day environment for 200 students in grades 9 through 12. CFS is seeking to hire its next Director of Development by March 1, 2019.
The CFS Director of Development (DOD) serves as part of the School’s administrative team reporting directly to the Head of School. The DOD is specifically charged to design and oversee all aspects of a strong, vibrant and successful development program intending to attract the maximum financial gift support possible for the School, deepen existing relationships within and among various individuals and entities contributing annually to the school and increase the number of donors across all constituencies. Core responsibilities include creative, strategic planning and effective production of new donor generation, annual fund solicitations, capital campaign organization and management, other key fundraising events, planned giving programs, corporate and foundation proposals and direct solicitation of major gifts (capital and/or unrestricted). The DOD also oversees Alumni and Parent relations, a growing volunteer program and helps coordinate communications and marketing efforts.
The DOD will embrace a senior administrative role in the school and advance the extraordinary mission of CFS both within the School and among new and existing external communities. The DOD will recognize and respect the inherent nature and value of residential education while being prepared to serve regular administrative responsibilities within it.
Creatively and enthusiastically plan, direct, coordinate, supervise and evaluate all operations and policies of the Development Office.
Work closely with and assist the Head of School with special administrative projects and serve as a member of the CFS Administrative team.
Coordinate and support Board of Director fundraising efforts and its Development Committee.
Identify and build relationships with new donors and foundations, thus expanding the school’s network of contacts in support of its mission.
Maintain personal and effective contact with prospects; identify and create appeals for new prospects (individuals, groups, businesses, etc.); ensure adequate donor recognition and acknowledgement.
Work with the Board of Directors to ensure that strategic planning and activities meet the School’s needs for charitable support; recommend prospects for Board membership.
Oversee programs for strong and continuous constituent relations including timely gift acknowledgements, database management and the production of School publications.
Lead a team of four professionals; develop, motivate and evaluate staff and potential hires.
Plan and prepare budgets; coordinate information with the Director of Finance and Operations to ensure compliance with federal and state agencies in the receipt, transmittal, recording and acknowledgement of gifts.
Effectively represent and promote CFS in all internal and external development activities.
Demonstrated leadership of Development programs at Director or Assistant Director level, including a track record of successful fundraising, deep experience with capital campaigns and strong educational credentials. Relevant advanced degree(s) and professional certifications will be considered positively.
Major gifts success with established donors and highly networked philanthropists, foundations, corporations and community leaders.
Solid management experience; provide vision, passion and motivation for colleagues.
Demonstrate high degree of initiative, creation of new ideas and ability to achieve results.
Commitment to service in support of the school’s mission, its staff and volunteers.
Excellent oral and written communication, consultation and negotiating skills.
Familiarity with Microsoft Office suite and Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge software.
Ability to understand, utilize and leverage modern social media/networking tools to advance CFS and achieve fundraising goals.
High energy, charismatic engagement, positive attitude, self-starter and solid work ethic.
Secure, confident, bold and articulate leadership while a strong team player, communicator and motivator.
Keen understanding of volunteer development and joy in client relationships.
Passion for improving lives of boys and connecting with those who share this goal.
Willingness to work extended days and weekends; ready to travel.
