We currently have an opening for a Territorial Prospect Research Manager.
As a key member of the Community Resources and Development Department, the Territorial Prospect Research Manager is responsible for overseeing and conducting prospect identification, screening, rating and research, primarily in support of the Major Gift and Planned Giving functions across the Eastern Territory. Additionally, this individual will identify potential funders and share profiles with division offices in support of corporate and foundation grants development. This position requires professional prospect research and analysis skills, using a wide range of information sources, in support of The Salvation Army's fund raising caseload pipeline development and developing informed major / planned / leadership gifts cultivation, solicitation and stewardship strategies.
The Territorial Prospect Research Manager develops information for the identification, rating, involvement, solicitation and stewardship of prospects and donors, including individuals, foundations, and corporations related to higher level philanthropic approaches, both for annual giving and customized proposals as well as campaigns and board recruitment. In addition, responsibilities include the administration of research databases, as well as working with the territorial CRM database in sync with the CRM Director / team and established business rules. This individual will also supervise a Research Assistant, and should have strong supervision, mentoring and training skills.
• Direct and execute, through broad as well as in-depth screening, analysis and research, effective processes for developing and updating major donor and planned giving caseloads and prospect pipelines. • Analyze wealth indicators, attachments, interests, affiliations, background, donor behavior, demographics and other appropriate criteria to this end, and offer analysis-based rating information related to giving capacity.
• Provide in-depth prospect / donor profiles in support of customized gift proposals, moves management strategies, team (eg. officer, development professional, leadership volunteer) cultivation and solicitation approaches, campaigns, and board recruitment. • Work in sync with Territorial Associate Director of Advancement and Territorial Planned Giving Director to implement data capturing protocols and systems that support mid-level, major donor, leadership gift and planned giving program success, respectively. • Implement ongoing and regular data screening projects (e.g. new donors) to identify and rate major gift / planned gift prospects for assignments and strategies.
• Serve as Territorial Headquarters liaison with all research vendors and tools. This requires managing contracts and managing relationships between The Salvation Army and each vendor. • Use Foundation websites and other resources to identify funding opportunities for divisions and/or regional / national coordinated approaches and connect fund raisers with info regarding foundations and corporate philanthropy programs. • Maintain a high level of confidentiality regarding all research information and follow all applicable protocols. • Provide detailed research to new DRDs in support of caseload development and in support of effective planned giving marketing efforts. • Track all research projects for timeliness and the level of research completed. Provide monthly report on activity.
· B.A. degree and minimum five years of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Lotus Notes
· Proficient use of a variety of sources for research, including free online resources as well as paid research databases and services, such as Lexis/Nexis, IWave, The Foundation Center Online, WealthEngine, The Chronicle
of Philanthropy, NOZA, News Library and other resources.
· Experience with donor data management (CRM) software and importing, exporting, field mapping, queries, and reports.
· Strong experience in research techniques and prospect research as an integral part of an overall professional fund raising program.
· Knowledge of Salesforce CRM is helpful.
· Strong verbal, written, analytical, and organizational skills.
· Good supervisory skills.
· Good interpersonal skills.
· Understanding of and support for the mission of The Salvation Army, and the role of prospect research in advancing that mission.
· Occasional travel may be required.
