Our success depends upon a dedicated, creative, and diverse staff, and the Associate Director, Institutional Giving & Development will be a key contributor to this effort.
The Associate Director, Institutional Giving & Development will serve as the primary development officer for WBUR’s foundation partners and prospects. Reporting to the Director of Development, they will play a key role in increasing funding for WBUR via foundation relationships and major donors, and will help in executing a successful capital campaign. Essential duties include cultivating and soliciting a portfolio of leadership and major gift level foundation and individual prospects, and working with interdisciplinary teams across WBUR to maximize fundraising efforts.
He/she will work closely with the Director on the following objectives:
Foundation Funding: Coordinate with key partners across Boston University and within WBUR to apply for, announce, and implement grant funding. Work closely with members of the WBUR senior team to identify and develop funding opportunities. Collaborate with Director to plan foundation visits, at times involving WBUR’s General Manager and other key staff. Use giving guidelines and strategies to develop proposal language and complete all relevant materials to submit to a foundation funder. Develop tools for tracking progress against grant goals, in coordination with funded entity or team at WBUR. Lead all grant reporting to foundation funders.
Donor Management: Working closely with Development colleagues, the Associate Director will solicit leadership annual fund and campaign gifts by engaging in face-to-face prospect and donor meetings and writing funding requests, donor reports, solicitation letters and impactful correspondence. They will develop and execute thoughtful strategies for the cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of assigned prospects, and coordinate with WBUR staff, including WBUR’s General Manager, when appropriate.
Prior experience building and managing a portfolio of top foundations relationships; including initiating, designing, and executing strategies for assigned foundations based on capacity for support and alignment of priorities.
Grant writing, application and implementation experience a must. Experience developing proposal language and assembling relevant materials to submit to a foundation funder.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare briefings and communications for the Development team.
Superior collaboration skills, and a comfort with working cross-functionally to conceive solicitation strategies that meet the organization’s fundraising needs.
Ability to generate monthly, quarterly, and annual reports of key metrics.
Strong research and strategy experience to identify, cultivate and pursue donor opportunities.
