The Major Gift/Development Officer will work to increase the University's fundraising capacity through the successful qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of individuals having the capacity to make gifts of $25K to $1M. This position serves as a liaison to one of the University's academic programs.
Develop and manage a successful moves management strategy for 150+/- prospects with the capacity to make gifts of $25K to $1M. Territory will consist of 5 to 6 regional areas/states. Build and advance strong personal and professional relationships with alumni, parents, and friends of Norwich that result in philanthropic contributions; serve as a resource, advocate, and spokesperson for development programs at Norwich. Work independently and creatively to match donor interests with institutional priorities. Develop funding proposals and negotiate and structure complex gifts, including planned gifts. Prepare briefings, stewardship plans/letters and other correspondence for prospects, collaborating with faculty and staff as needed. Motivate and support senior leadership and volunteers to solicit gifts. Ensure the timely capture and recording of data relating to the assigned prospect pool. Maintain in-depth knowledge of the University's campaign priorities, academic and extracurricular programs, and key faculty and administrators.
Work cooperatively with others and accept direction from supervisors. Must handle confidential materials with appropriate discretion. Significant travel and a valid driver's license are required.
Education, Training and Related Experience
Bachelor's degree required. 3+ years of demonstrated success in closing major gifts, or closing sales in another industry.
Strong analytical skills, outstanding organizational skills and superb attention to detail are a must. Must be able to maintain confidentiality. Outstanding verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work in fast-paced, high volume environment. Able to prioritize, multi-task and meet deadlines. Knowledge of MS Office, Word, Excel and Outlook. Experience using Raisers Edge a plus. Advanced Excel or database experience helpful. Ability to communicate with co-workers and business contacts in a courteous and professional manner; exhibit grace under pressure. Ability to relate effectively with all members of a diverse academic community, and constituent base.
