Saint Mary’s School is currently searching for a Development Officer to work on our beautiful historic campus. This exceptional location is in the heart of downtown Raleigh in a gated campus with 24/7 security. The Development Officer (DO) for the Parent Giving and Young Alumnae Club reports to the Director of Development (DOD). The primary role of the Development Officer is to solicit and close gifts for the School by developing and building relationships with parents and young alumnae. The Development Officer will also create and implement fundraising initiatives in support of a wide range of priorities across the institution. The Development Officer must thoroughly understand and be able to effectively articulate the School’s mission, vision, culture, history and value proposition to various constituent groups to secure and steward gifts.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Identify, qualify, and cultivate a prospect portfolio of 300 parents and young alumnae with a focus on raising major gifts.
Work with the Director of Development and Research Associate to identify, qualify and communicate with new parent prospects.
Make discovery and qualification calls, establish cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies within prospect portfolio of parents and young alumnae.
Build and enhance constituent relationships between non-alumni parents and the school, involving them strategically in special programs and events, and connecting them to other supporters.
Perform a minimum of 100+ face-to-face visits per year, maintaining a regular travel schedule to visit identified parent prospects, and meet or exceed annual strategic goals.
Participate in alumnae and parent engagement events on campus and on the road to establish and maintain donor relationships, identify prospects, and make potential donor connections.
Recommend new initiatives to the Director that will provide meaningful and substantive engagement opportunities for parent prospects.
Assist in identifying parent volunteers who can serve as leaders among the parent community and who will support the fundraising programs.
Use database donor software (i.e., Axiom) to track actions on each prospect in a timely, accurate and complete fashion while maintaining appropriate records, reports and analyses as required.
Routinely produce reports on progress toward annual goals and develop an annual written plan on all work activities.
Other duties as assigned.
Perform weekend and night responsibilities to support the life of the residential community and the academic program as required by your position or requested by your manager/supervisor.

Bachelor’s Degree required with a minimum of 3 years of progressive development experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Highly entrepreneurial, energetic, and collaborative individual with success in personally securing gifts and meeting fundraising goals.
Proven track record in soliciting and closing major gifts.
Demonstrated ability to carry out the vision, goals, and fundraising aspirations of a comprehensive, sustained development operation.
Tested ability to work closely and diplomatically with all constituencies within a school or similar environment.
Strong interpersonal skills necessary for building relationships with external (donors, prospects, trustees) and internal (faculty, staff, colleagues) constituents.
A deep appreciation for, and an ability to articulate eloquently, the mission of Saint Mary’s School, its curriculum, programs, aspirations, and the unique experience it provides to students.
Superior verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
Excellent attention to detail.
Ability to travel frequently including overnights and weekends (80% of the time).
Must possess high degree of independent initiative and innovation, negotiation, interpersonal and networking skills.
Proficiency in use of development database(s) and Microsoft Office.
