Strategic Partnerships Director
The Massachusetts Down Syndrome Congress (MDSC) is seeking a Strategic Partnerships Director to take the lead role in deepening and developing a more robust and sustainable philanthropic development program. The ideal candidate will have experience with building major gift programs and corporate partnerships and will work with the Executive Director and Development Director to advance MDSC’s new strategic plan. We are looking for a senior-level fundraising professional who can bring a deep knowledge of fundraising best practices to our dynamic team. S/he will be responsible for deepening existing donor relationships and identifying and helping to cultivate new potential major donors and corporate partners.
The MDSC is a vibrant non-profit (501c3) organization whose mission is to ensure individuals with Down syndrome and other intellectual and developmental disabilities in Massachusetts are valued, included, and given the opportunities to pursue fulfilling lives. We provide information, support, networking opportunities, and advocacy for people with Down syndrome and other ID/DD and their families, educators, health care professionals, and the community-at-large.
The MDSC has grown from an all-volunteer organization with a $200,000 budget to one with a 1.5 million annual budget and a staff of 11. The MDSC's significant growth has relied heavily on events but has also included an array of various revenue streams. We have a great foundation to build on – a solid base of donors, a committed senior staff, a dedicated Board and a mission driven Executive Director with strong fundraising experience. We seek a professional with the fundraising expertise and leadership skills to bring renewed strategy and focus to our individual giving and corporate partnership efforts and work with our management team to build the long-term financial stability of the organization. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Strengthen and expand our major donor program. Build personal relationships with donors and supporters, provide support and guidance to Executive Director and coach and train Board members to grow their involvement.
Develop and strengthen strategic partnerships. Identify new and potential event sponsors and business partners and build long-lasting and mutually beneficial relationships.
Help with, and in some cases lead, the development of individual strategies for prospects and create a comprehensive stewardship program.
Personally manage a portfolio of donors and prospects, including their identification, cultivation, and solicitation. .
Continue to build a culture of philanthropy among MDSC leadership, staff, and board.
Work with Director of Communications and management team to develop consistent fundraising messages across all of the MDSC’s communications.
Represent the MDSC at speaking engagements, house parties, and individual donor meetings.
Work with the Executive Director and Board Development Committee to advise on further developing the MDSC’s strategic and diversified fundraising plan.
Keep us growing! Determine readiness and potentially implement a Planned Giving Program, and other initiatives.
STRONG CANDIDATES FOR THIS POSITION WILL HAVE:
Strong commitment to the mission of the MDSC.
Minimum of seven years of professional work experience in the development and fundraising field, building and maintaining an individual giving function in an entrepreneurial nonprofit environment.
Expansive knowledge of all aspects of fundraising including best practices for corporate and foundation relations and individual giving programs.
Commitment to helping the organization implement systems and structures to support significant growth.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to inspire donors.
Proven manager who truly enjoys mentoring staff, sharing knowledge and supporting professional growth in others. Ability to take initiative, set priorities, and to work independently and as a team-player.
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience required.
