The Associate Director of Development for Health Sciences identifies, cultivates, solicits, and stewards major and principal gift prospects for UConn Health as part of the Health Sciences development team for the benefit of the University. The Associate Director of Development participates as a member of the UConn Foundation's team in the overall execution of advancing UConn Health’s strategy to increase major and principal giving for all areas of the hospital from a grateful patient population, the community, as well as alumni from the Schools of Medicine and Dental Medicine.
Main Job Tasks and Responsibilities
Responsible for identifying and managing a caseload of prospects. Identifies, cultivates, solicits and stewards grateful patients and alumni using moves management concepts and tools.
Participates in planning and implementing strategies and programs for achieving established fundraising objectives for UConn Health in accordance with University and school/college priorities and policies.
Prepares solicitation materials as needed for individual, corporate and/or foundation prospects. Furnishes timely reports to the Sr. Director of Development, Health Sciences on progress toward assigned goals and solicitation results.
Updates and maintains contact reports in a timely manner and implements next steps of moves process according to established schedule.
Participates with the Health Sciences team and the members of the central development programs staff to coordinate fundraising priorities of UConn Health.
Serves as the point person in development for the annual Gala, working in conjunction with the Events team.
Other advancement-related duties as assigned.
Demonstrates ability to personally solicit major gifts.
Excellent interpersonal skills, tact, and diplomacy. Ability to facilitate personal interactions in formal and informal social settings.
High level of motivation and assertiveness, as well as an ability to exercise independent judgment.
Strong written and verbal communications skills, including ability to effectively communicate University priorities to donors and prospects and to positively represent the University and Foundation.
Familiarity and skill in the use of computers and information management tools.
Ability to handle multiple tasks, to assess and order priorities, and to track details in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to work to the demands of the position, which may exceed a 40 hour work week, and the ability and willingness to travel upon request.
Must be willing to travel; reliable personal transportation is required for this position.
Must possess a valid driver's license issued from state in which employee resides. Employee must maintain at their expense, automobile liability insurance coverage in the minimum amount of $500,000 or a combination of umbrella and automobile liability insurance coverage of $500,000. A certificate of automobile insurance evidencing the limit, must be provided to the Foundation at hire and annually thereafter.
Education and Experience Required
Minimum of 3 years of experience in fundraising or related field; Health Center, hospital or grateful patient experience preferred.
