A senior leadership role, the Director of Development will plan, implement and manage the Institute’s comprehensive development programs, securing contributed income through foundation grants, individual major gifts, endowment gifts and corporate sponsorships. The Director of Development will cultivate, solicit and steward relationships and develop new partnerships locally, nationally and internationally. The Director of Development will work with talented, forward-thinking and passionate colleagues and strategic partners to increase income and foster a sustainable culture of philanthropy. The Director of Development reports to the President and leads a team located in Washington, DC.
Significant track record of building and leading successful fundraising programs for nonprofit arts, cultural or educational organizations
An accomplished front-line fundraiser with a minimum of 7 to 10 years of proven success in development
Demonstrated experience and success in face-to-face major gift solicitation and building corporate sponsorships
Deep knowledge of fundraising best practices with a record of growth and innovation
Well-developed communication and presentation skills
Proven ability to strategize, define and meet fundraising goals
Ability to leverage digital and social media technology to support development strategy and partnerships
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
Flexibility to travel globally and to attend frequent evening and weekend events and activities
Bachelor’s degree is required; an advanced degree is preferred
Passion for music education and international cultural diplomacy events and activities
Success recruiting, managing and mentoring high-performing teams, ideally in multiple locations
Experience with the Los Angeles, Washington, DC, New York and national philanthropic communities
International fundraising experience is an asset
