United We Dream is looking for a contract writer who can consistently work with us. To begin, this will be a 3-month contract, after which we will evaluate performance and the possibility of a long-term partnership. The writer will need to be very flexible in terms of availability. We expect a workload in the range of 4 - 16 hours a week, with the ability to periodically expand to 20 hours. A work plan with final deliverables will be put into place immediately when the contract commences for purposes of planning with current and projected deadlines.
The 2017 annual operating budget of UWD is $5.2 million with more than 90% of its revenue derived from foundations, several of which are multi-year funders. Reporting to the Development Director, the Grant Writer will deliver high level writing products such as concept memos and narratives as well as proposals and reports that the department can use in funding opportunities such as grant applications and when coordinating with prospective funders and donors.
Work with Development Director and other senior team members to conceptualize framing, narratives and supplemental language for each individual funder based on their unique priorities and interests
Discuss campaigns and programs with key staff to inform narrative development
Write narrative for concept memos, proposals and reports that are of the highest quality and tailored to each unique funder’s interests

Deep fluency in storytelling and framing work for various funder audiences with various interests
Strong at coordinating, capturing and synthesizing information from various stakeholders
Ability to work with a driven team that works in a demanding, fast-paced environment with flexibility to meet short turn-around opportunities and competing priorities
Excellent interpersonal skills, enjoys working with others and is a team player
Knowledge of immigrants’ rights organizing and policy landscape
Intersectional social justice analysis on race, class, and gender with a passion about immigrants’ rights and youth organizing
