The Global FoodBanking Network (GFN) works to alleviate hunger and malnutrition by launching and accelerating the development of food banks around the world. Founded in 2006, GFN now connects more than 790 food banks in 32 countries that together serve 6.8 million people annually. The organization operates with a lean team of fifteen employees primarily based in Chicago and engages a globally diverse Board of Directors. The FY17 budget is $3.78 million, with approximately 85 percent support from corporate donors and 15 percent support from individual donors.
As GFN moves into its second decade, it has an ambitious vision to help enable its members to materially increase the amount of food distributed to those in need, distribute more nutrient-rich foods, and strengthen the resilience of their communities. Its major goals include:
- Expanding food banking across Asia;
- Increasing the number of people served by food banks with which GFN currently works;
- Supporting food banking organizations in distributing a greater diversity of foods;
- Building a trusted global network of food rescue and relief organizations.
GFN is seeking new talent to strengthen and expand its development team to accelerate this growth with an eye towards dramatically increasing the organization’s financial resources with which it can accomplish its mission.
In the next phase of GFN’s expansion, we will invite new corporations to join us in building a global network of food banks that nourish the world. To drive this effort, we are looking for an experienced Assistant Director to recruit new corporate partners to invest in GFN and its members. This is an externally-facing role for a skilled, mid-career development professional that enjoys voraciously networking and building long-term, collaborative partnerships that support shared interests.
The Assistant Director will be charged with identifying and forging revenue-generating relationships with corporate partners. It is expected that the Assistant Director will recruit $1 million in new support in their first year, growing their portfolio to $2.5 million in new support by year three. The Assistant Director plays a leadership role in all aspects of GFN’s development strategy and supports the senior management team in corporate outreach.
GFN carries out its corporate partnerships through a matrixed approach. On the development team, the Director of Corporate and Foundation Partnerships solicits and stewards all current corporate relationships, a portfolio that exceeds $3 million. On the programming team, the Director of Network Programs and a Network Programs Officer ensure that the corporate partnership is carried out in the field in a way that advances hunger relief and supports food banks around the world. This role would join this collaborative team of professionals, being formally seated on the development team and would focus on generating new partnerships with corporations that currently do not have a relationship with GFN.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- In partnership with the Director of Corporate and Foundation Partnerships, refine GFN’s new corporate partnership program to increase support through a range of entry points including general operation support, restricted support, grants to member food banks, sponsorships, and cause-marketing.
- Solicit and develop revenue-generating partnership with corporations in a way that advances the interests of the partner, GFN, and the cause of food banking globally. It is anticipated that this role will generate $1 million in new support in year one, and $2.5 million in new support by year three. At least half of this support should be for operating expenses.
- Leverage the relationships and ideas of senior management, the GFN Board of Directors, and current corporate partners to make solicitations of corporations more effective.
- Once secured, work closely with the Network Programs team to strengthen corporate partnerships by providing regular updates, creating impact reports, ensuring accurate recognition across all aspects of GFN presence and collateral, and arranging site visits as requested.
- Forecast corporate revenue pipeline for their portfolio quarterly.
- Regularly update and ensure accuracy of all major gift records in SalesForce database.
- Other projects as assigned.
