25%- Systems Administration
-Provide primary administration support for Foundation system services.
-Install operating systems and related system software.
-Review and install patches. Perform backups and recovery.
-Monitor changes to system configuration and files to ensure the integrity of systems.
-Work with security engineers to ensure services are adequately protected on the network.
-Troubleshoot and resolve ill-defined and complex software related problems. Monitor system performance, adjust system tuning parameters and provide performance report information to management upon request.
-Perform other project planning or implementation specific tasks as necessary.
-Write original code or modify code to implement or improve the function of various system support products or to integrate with other systems.
-Performs systems analysis, design, construction, testing, documentation, and deployment of new applications/systems or enhancements to applications/systems.
-Performs process and data analysis and testing to successfully integrate purchased software packages into the university environment.
-Administer data and/or one or more databases in a distributed computing environment.
-Maintains existing application components to ensure efficient operating condition and current level of functionality.
-Upgrades application components to improve performance or meet new business or technical requirements.
20% - Leadership
Work with IT Director to define and prioritize projects tasks.
-Manage all aspects of the project life-cycle, from analysis and design through all phases of teasing, training, documentation, development of procedures and process, implementation, and maintenance.
-Lead assigned staff in support of unit projects, including but not limited to: delegating and prioritizing work, coordinating training, developing performance plans, and recommend corrective action as appropriate to unit leadership.
-Work with the Help Desk and others to monitor and resolve ill-defined, complex problems that were referred for solution.
-Work with Operations staff, members of the group and other system administrators, security and network engineers to resolve various problems related to the operation of the systems and network.
-On a prescheduled and rotating basis, carry a pager and assume responsibility for responding to system emergencies and resolving system outages that may occur outside of normal working hours.
15% Customer Support
-Provides general and technical application and maintenance including troubleshooting, answering questions, investigating problems, modifying programs and processes, making operational enhancements, etc.
-Consult with customers, internal or external, to Information WSU Foundation on problems or questions related to the use of servers and supported services.
-Provide or oversee the creation of customer, operator and Help Desk training related to the implementation of new services.
-Write or oversee the creation of various documentation for the Help Desk, customer or Operations use.
-Manages test environment as needed.
Provides research for products and emerging technologies in support of the university’s strategic communication initiatives and projects and provides recommendations.
-Provides leadership in evaluating and adopting new media and other emerging technologies.
-Prepares and presents information and prototypes to leadership based on research.
-Gathers and analyzes administrative information requirements.
-Prepares project proposals and cost/benefit analyses as needed.
-Determines tasks, analyzes task dependencies and timing requirements, and produces a project schedule.
-Schedules and conducts walk-throughs and other reviews as needed.
-Monitors and reports progress on projects.
-Collaborates with members of the technical development community to determine business needs, evaluate alternative solutions, and determine implementation scope and schedule.
-Plans and manages server and systems enhancements/maintenance projects. Serves as Lead on these projects.
-Utilizes business data and process modeling principals and techniques to assist in documenting and analyzing business information requirements and solutions.
-Provide input and make recommendations to management.
10% Professional Development
Maintain technical knowledge/skills in areas related to servers and systems, distributed systems and the services that are maintained within the group.
Take on special projects outside the normal duties of this position as requested.
Perform other duties as assigned.
