CureDuchenne is a non-profit organization dedicated to finding and funding a cure for Duchenne muscular dystrophy. The Development Manager will focus on sales and fundraising and work in conjunction with CureDuchenne’s Senior Development Director to plan and implement two high profile events in Orange County and other special events as needed.
Procure high level sponsorships and major gifts from corporations and individual donors.
Experience securing and curating live auction packages ranging from $10,000 value and up.
Secure items for silent auctions.
Provide excellent service to donors, external partners and internal team.
In depth understanding of social event fundraising strategy.
Create development materials for donor prospecting and solicitation visits and corporate and foundation grant proposals.
Research and update donor profiles
Meet or exceed individual revenue goals
Experience with event marketing, social media, email campaigns and PR
Polished presentation skills
Comfort completing fundraising tasks at all levels
Phone and e-mail outreach and follow up with sponsors, partners, vendors, guests and attendees.
Coordinate event logistics.
Donor stewardship including writing thank you notes, acknowledgement letters and other gratitude efforts.
Manage volunteer committees on each event to ensure that committee members are fully supported and accomplish tasks required for successful events.
Prepare and maintain accurate records/data to evaluate cost-effectiveness, profitability, and public awareness of events and/or mission/program activities. This may include preparing income/expense budgets, compilation/analysis of event statistics, evaluation of media coverage, researching and analyzing community fundraising potential versus actual revenues, etc.
Develop strong networks within the local community(s), develop and grow prospects for potential revenue streams, event sponsorships, and volunteer opportunities and to increase CureDuchenne’s visibility and brand awareness.
Ability to jump in and make an immediate impact
Interest in wine, golf and/or hockey a plus
BA or BS degree or equivalent
2 to 5 years of prior related work experience, preferably in sales or event fundraising in a not-for-profit or customer service setting.
Ability to demonstrate successful fund raising experience
Superior customer service and professional demeanor.
Strong persuasive communicator.
Excellent verbal and written communications skills, the ability to gracefully handle rejection and bounce back assuring goals are met.
Strong interpersonal and presentation skills required; ability to cold call, grow local contacts and build and nurture effective business relationships to increase CureDuchenne’s visibility, brand awareness, volunteer staff and revenue.
Detail oriented, adaptable, organized and demonstrated ability to successfully manage multiple projects and tasks.
Positive attitude and ability to work well with a team.
Must be able to read, comprehend and analyze financial goals and fundraising reports and also generate required reports on a timely basis.
Excellent computer skills including Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook.
Must be able and willing to work evenings and weekends as necessary.
Duchenne is the most common and lethal muscle disease in children. One in every 3,500 male births results in a child being afflicted with the disease. Boys with Duchenne are usually diagnosed before the age of 5, in a wheelchair by age 12 and most don’t survive their mid-20s.
