LSU is an iconic American university poised to launch a billion dollar-plus campaign. Working together, the LSU Foundation and LSU are seeking a dynamic, experienced leader who can guide the advancement enterprise and inspire confidence among its constituencies as president and CEO of the LSU Foundation and vice president of institutional advancement for LSU. They invite nominations and expressions of interest from highly qualified individuals.
LSU is Louisiana's 156-year-old flagship university, with over 31,000 students, 200,000 alumni, and is among the best-recognized land-, sea-, and space-grant research universities in the nation. Upon this historical base, it is building a strategic plan to intentionally reconstruct itself to become more academically competitive and market-responsive, with greater national and international visibility.
Last fall, the university and the LSU Foundation committed to a Blueprint for the Future Development of LSU. It established the direction, benchmarks, and funding lines necessary to grow the advancement enterprise that will be required to support the campaign and long-term sustainability of an institution of LSU's significance. There is also a remarkable level of internal communication and cooperation exhibited among LSU's primary fundraising entities, including the LSU Foundation, the Tiger Athletic Foundation, and the Alumni Association. There is a genuine donor-centric environment emerging on campus, and it is paying dividends. There will be another exciting announcement soon, taking this “one university spirit” to even higher levels of productivity.
The new Foundation CEO and LSU vice president for institutional advancement will sit on the LSU president's cabinet and serve as the institution's chief advancement officer. He/she will oversee all philanthropic planning and initiatives, as well as provide executive leadership and management for the Foundation. This officer will be expected to lead by example, carry a portfolio of principal gift prospects, and advise the president, deans, and senior Foundation staff on best practices.
LSU has averaged raising about $60 million annually for academic programs in recent years, and the value of the LSU Foundation's assets under management is $559 million. Even with its success, the university's profile suggests it could do much better. Michael Sinkus and John Cash, senior consultants with Marts & Lundy, directed the campaign planning study, an operational audit, and a realignment review, and helped build the campaign plan during the last year. They have said the consensus among their team is that LSU is capable of setting significant new records for philanthropic investments during the campaign and over the next decade.
