Our team passionately provides support and works tirelessly to raise our children. We are seeking a Grant Proposal Writer who exhibits this same type of passion and effort in all aspects of the work they perform at SOS Children’s Villages Illinois.
SUMMARY OF DUTIES
Researches, writes, and analyzes proposals for grant solicitations that support SOS Children’s Villages Illinois fundraising, programs, and strategic plan objectives.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Conduct research on potential funders and/or donors to identify and diversify the current foundation/corporation portfolio.
Collaborate with program staff to review needs of programs.
Research and collect data for the purpose of writing proposals related to potential grants.
Write, edit and submit letters of inquiry, proposals, and reports that will support SOS Illinois’ programs.
Maintain calendar of submitted, pending, funded, and declined initiatives to communicate progress on the goals and objectives of the respective program initiatives.
Develop resources and maintain effective relationships with major philanthropic and corporate/foundation entities utilizing both in person and virtual methods of communication.
Adhere to all specified deadlines in response to grant solicitations and ensure compliance with all grant criteria.
Follow-up, as appropriate, on proposal submitted and provide stewardship throughout life of all grants.
Collaborate with Director of Development to identify potential donors for major gifts referrals.
Collaborate with program staff on continuous implementation of outcomes, logic models, and logic model evaluations.
Collaborate with Finance team on database integration, grant reporting, grant spending, restricted funds, etc.
Maintain knowledge of best practices as they relate to grant programs/functions through trainings, webinars, and memberships.
Provide additional and occasional assistance outside the normal schedule to accommodate and support fundraising events, meetings, and the Development team.
All other duties as assigned.
COMPETENCIES, EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS
Commitment to SOS Children’s Villages Illinois philosophy and mission.
Bachelor’s degree required and three years’ experience working in grant fundraising preferred.
Knowledge of Chicago-based foundations and corporations a plus and philanthropic websites.
Demonstrated organizational and communication skills as well as ability to work with and motivate other development professionals and volunteers.
Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
Willingness and ability to travel and to work nights and weekends, as required.
Ability to work cooperatively to achieve common goals; support cooperation, collaboration and the sharing of information while providing the best quality product available and continuously upgrade standards to maintain quality, in all areas of responsibility.
Ability to motivate and include others to achieve common goals.
Understanding of database management, gift processing and donor relations.
Understanding of volunteer and relationship management.
Openness to new ideas and their implementation. Ability to react and adapt to changing situations appropriately.
Ability to listen carefully to and understand constituents’ needs, both internally and externally, and proactively respond to those needs in a consistent and timely manner.
Demonstrated analytical and fundraising skills with the ability to recognize opportunities, identify critical, high pay-off activities and prioritize them to attain goals.
Ability to work in a team environment.
Organizational and computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and preferably Raiser’s Edge.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment.
Ability to handle sensitive and confidential materials with integrity.
Reliable, punctual, and able to manage multiple tasks.
Ability to provide required DCFS Medical Report/TB test.
Valid Illinois driver's license with acceptable driving record; insured and reliable transportation.
Sensitivity to the cultural and socioeconomic characteristics of clients and staff.
Ability to relate to the Agency staff and to the public in a courteous and professional manner.
Ability to work in an alcohol, tobacco and drug-free environment.
