The Director of Development Operations is a strategic, cross-organizational leader who is responsible for development information and systems and their interface with other aspects of the organization. He/She is responsible for overseeing: all aspects of PIH’s development-focused database systems; donor and gift-related data processing; fundraising data analysis and modeling; and varied internal and external reporting activities. The Director of Development Operations manages two teams. One is charged with programming and reporting; the other with gift processing, donor data entry and record integrity. The Director is lead strategist for evaluating the functionality of fundraising-supporting database and technology platforms, and works closely and collaboratively with fundraisers to ensure that their data modeling and workflow needs are met. The Director is responsible for managing the interface with the Finance team, assuring the accuracy and timeliness of shared data. The Director will be pivotal in preparing the organizational systems for a forthcoming campaign.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Strategy and Impact (35%)
Leads the team of technical and specialized staff in developing strategies focused on optimal utilization of the donor database for data storage, hygiene, modeling and reporting.
Leads ongoing, rigorous exploration of alternative or supplemental technology platforms that could better enable the Development team to achieve ambitious targets. Specifically will lead an effort to orchestrate needs assessment, acquisition decision and implementation of a database of record/CRM for the entire PIH organization.
Oversees data flow from the donor database to the financial system to ensure revenue reconciliation and the timely, accurate generation of fundraising progress reports. Also oversees the integration of the online database with the in-house donor database.
Meets regularly with directors/managers within Development to strategize use of the donor database, Power BI reporting tools and supplemental technology platforms in order to support workflow and achievement of targets.
Works closely with the Sr. Director of Development and the Director of Prospect Management to generate reports on gift officers’ and various development teams’ productivity.
Directly supervises the Development Information Systems Manager and the Gift Team Manager. Supports and mentors managers and collaborates with them on executing individual professional development plans. Works closely with technical consultants for fundraising and reporting system projects and strategically hires temporary help as needed.
Oversees team processing over 150,000 transactions annually and all related operational activities, including donor acknowledgment, database management and data synchronization, ensuring that work is carried out in a timely and high-quality manner.
Manages vendor relationships with Concourse Hosting, Blackbaud/Raiser’s edge, Omatic software and Stripe. Also manages the relationship with the lockbox company that provides a variety of services, including processing PIH’s contributions and updating donor data. Manages account setup for contributions handled by 3rd party “indirect giving vehicles”.
Works closely with the Sr. Director of Development to ensure strategic and effective collaboration with all fundraising teams. Collaborates likewise with the Finance, Communications and IT teams. Ensures integration with finance systems and observance of relevant protocols.
Develops and manages the annual Development Operations budget.

Bachelor’s degree required and minimum of 8-10 years of development operations oversight or related technical team management experience required.
Solid computer skills in a PC environment with the capability to master new software applications and technologies in database management. Excellent skills in the functional use of Excel, Outlook, and Microsoft Word. Knowledge of Raiser’s Edge or donor CRM system highly preferred.
Must model professionalism, confidence, honesty and reliability. Must have an even disposition and the ability to deal effectively with people from different backgrounds, with varying experience levels. Must demonstrate the capacity to evaluate problems accurately, using data, and strategically explore solutions.
This position requires good judgment along with the ability to handle confidential materials with discretion. The Director must be goal-oriented, organized, effective at managing complex processes, and demonstrate attention to detail.
Must be able to prioritize work for self and team members.
Must model excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
Must demonstrate an ability to work successfully under pressure.
