Summary: Kara is seeking an individual who desires to be an integral team member of a unique organization that has delivered healing to the community for over 40 years. As Kara’s Development Manager, you will work directly with the Executive Director and play an essential role in the management and oversight of key fundraising activities and the successful implementation of the annual development plan to support Kara’s grief support services. This includes individual, event-related, and institutional fundraising to generate revenue in support of an agency budget of $1.2M, of which 80% is derived from contributed income. A passion for our mission of serving the bereaved combined with proven skills in development and fundraising are keys for success. The duties of the Development Manager include but are not limited to the following:
Essential Job Duties/Responsibilities
Manage systems and processes associated with fundraising and communications, including but not limited to: funder communications, donor data recording and tracking, and funder acknowledgement.
Maintain and manage accurate donor records in the Exceed donor database, including actions, notes, documents, reports and other materials from Development Team and appropriate staff members.
Process and properly categorize all gifts, grants and pledges made to Kara.
Prepare and process all gift acknowledgement letters in a timely manner and as specified in the donor stewardship plan.
Prepare and process all client solicitation letters in a timely manner and as specified in our client donor initiative plan.
Prepare and process all stewardship correspondence with donors in a timely manner
Respond to donor inquiries in a professional and timely manner.
Conduct analysis, prepare, and distribute donor and gift reports denoting revenue trends as requested.
Conduct donor research for individuals, corporations and foundations as requested.
Reconcile Exceed records with Finance records on an as-needed basis and troubleshoot technical problems with Exceed
Manage preparation and delivery of solicitation mailings and campaigns including Annual and Midyear fund appeals and acknowledgement letters in accordance with annual development plan.
Manage all aspects of event planning and implementation including but not limited to annual Spring Fundraiser event, WalknRun Event, donor receptions, stewardship events, etc.
Manage, develop and maintain electronic newsletters, websites, social media communications, printed, and program collateral and marketing materials.
Cultivate and enhance relationships with key constituencies via networking, public speaking, training and presenting, and other relationship-building activities.
Work with program staff to gather information and prepare agency reports for key stakeholders.
In coordination with the Executive Director and Kara’s contracted grant writers, assist in the preparation and timely delivery of grant proposals, reports and essential grant funding correspondence.
Supervise development volunteers and interns, contractors and additional staff members as needed.
Proactively identify and propose opportunities to improve efficiency of administrative systems and processes including Exceed or other database, acknowledgment process and other record keeping systems.

Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, database-related software applications and familiarity with creative design software and other office equipment

High standard of professionalism and integrity
Ability to work successfully under pressure and to handle competing priorities with minimal supervision
Ability to maintain donor and client confidentiality
Quick learner and willingness to seek input
Positive attitude and sense of humor
Evenings and weekend work will be necessary periodically
Education and Experience
5+ years non-profit development experience preferred
Human Services background field a plus
Proven volunteer experience a plus

40 hours per week
