Reporting to the Vice President of Development, s/he will be a key part of institutional fundraising in the National Development office. The Officer is responsible for qualifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding major foundations and corporations. Key metrics for success will include donor engagement and revenue secured as well as proposals submitted, success rate, and number of new gifts secured. The Institutional Giving Officer will collaborate effectively with program staff and leadership across the organization. This is an opportunity for a highly motivated development professional to build and manage a portfolio of corporate and foundation prospects and donors capable of making six and seven-figure investments in Audubon’s work.
The position will be based out of Audubon’s Headquarters in New York City, with possible travel approximately 25% of time.

Manage and grow a portfolio of corporate and foundation supporters and prospects, primarily capable of making $100K+ investments in Audubon, and shepherd them through the moves management process.
Write clear and compelling reports and proposals that align closely with funder priorities and tell the Audubon story; must be able to distill complicated programs into compelling donor materials.
Brief and prepare volunteers, executives, and program staff for interactions with the donors—from research and strategy to execution.
Work closely with conservation, policy, and science leadership to prioritize organizational funding needs and identify appropriate new opportunities for support.
Develop a strong knowledge of Audubon’s strategic plan and conservation priorities at local, regional, national, and international levels.
Maintain accurate and current records in donor database (Salesforce).
Adhere to the highest ethical standards and fundraising best practices, demonstrate perseverance, and have an optimistic and positive attitude.
Qualifications and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree required as well as 5-7 years’ progressive institutional fundraising experience.
Proven track record of building donor relationships and securing corporate and foundation gifts in the six-figure range. Experience with seven-figure gifts a plus.
Strong writer with proven ability to develop high-level, compelling proposals; ability to quickly synthesize complex ideas and align them with funder priorities.
Persuasive communicator with excellent presentation and listening skills.
Team player with a natural affinity for building close, effective working relationships with a diverse group of stakeholders.
Must be good with numbers and comfortable with budgets and financials.
Outstanding stewardship and relationship management skills.
Highly motivated, energetic, and enthusiastic.
Willingness to travel and work some evenings when needed.
Experience and knowledge of the environmental landscape is a plus, but not required – however interest in conservation and the mission of the National Audubon Society is a must.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications; knowledge of Salesforce is a plus.
