Perkins School for the Blind, located near Boston, was the first school for the blind chartered in the United States in 1829. Under the direction of the Director of Individual Giving, the Development Officer will develop and implement strategies to cultivate, engage, steward and solicit volunteers, leadership level annual fund donors and newly identified annual fund and lower level major gifts prospects. The Development Officer will play a key part in the overall strategy to deepen the pool of annual fund donors and create a pipeline for major gifts. S/he will oversee two key volunteer groups – the Corporators and Young Professionals, with the goal of deepening volunteer engagement across Perkins.
Manage a portfolio of up to 75 annual fund prospects.
Cultivate donor and prospect relationships to enable Perkins to benefit from their influence, contacts, expertise, and financial support. This includes being first point of contact including face-to-face, telephone, written and electronic communication.
Staff two key volunteer groups - The Corporation and The Young Professionals including: recruitment, planning and execution of meetings and solicitation of members.
Devise, and then organize, manage and supervise an annual program of events to provide social and networking opportunities, relationship building and fundraising leads, in conjunction with the Director of Individual Giving and Director of Special Events. Ensure all follow-up after events is timely, efficient and professional.
Take an active role in the cultivation and solicitation of annual fund leadership level gifts to secure increased support and recruit new members to the Partners for Possibility ($1,000+) giving society.
Cultivate, steward and solicit a small pool of major gifts and planned giving donors.
Support the development of Perkins fundraising communications (printed and digital).
Ensure that the most current and relevant information is available in the donor data base, including, notes, strategy, contact reports and tasks.
Perform other related duties and task as assigned.

Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university; a minimum of four years of development experience.
