MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES The Assistant Director, Grants and Sponsorships reports to the Director of Major Gifts and is responsible for raising funds with a focus on corporate, foundation, and government funders and prospects. This includes managing the production of proposals, grants, reports and stewardship, while meeting all deadlines. This position works closely with the Sponsorship Director, senior development officers, and executives to effectively communicate, build relationships, and solicit support of the Joffrey.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Manage grant and sponsorship calendars; coordinate and communicate with senior leadership and volunteers to ensure all deadlines are met.
Prepare grant proposals, solicitations, letters of intent, invoices and reports in accordance with funder and Joffrey standards.
Ensure that donor and sponsor recognition and benefits are delivered as promised.
Staff senior leaders and volunteers for meetings and communications with current and prospective funders.
Conduct research to identify new grant and sponsorship opportunities, match with Joffrey programs and initiatives, and prepare donor profiles.
Maintain accurate donor contact information, solicitation and stewardship plans in Tessitura.
Maintain library of materials to be submitted with proposals and reports (i.e. articles, budgets, Board list, etc.)
Prepare personalized acknowledgement letters for signature by senior development officers, executives, and volunteers.
Assist with the preparation of the annual development plan with goals and strategies for grants and sponsorships.
Additional Responsibilities Include:
Represent the Joffrey and its programs at Joffrey performances and events.
Assist in development and marketing department activities as needed to achieve the Joffrey’s fund raising goals.
Undergraduate degree required. A minimum of three (3) years of development experience necessary, with a proven track record of accomplishment and success in fundraising in an arts or related organization. The ideal candidate will have exceptional ability to speak and write persuasively with donors and prospective donors about the needs and goals of The Joffrey Ballet. He/she will be a self-starter with the ability to make decisions in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, be knowledgeable about Chicago’s institutional funding community and embrace opportunities to learn. Excellent strategic, technical, and organizational, and computer skills required. Must be professional, detail-oriented and have excellent communication skills. Knowledge of Tessitura or other development information systems a plus. Deep commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion required.
