The Animal Rescue League of Boston is an unwavering champion for animals in need, committed to keeping them safe and healthy in habitats and homes.
The Animal Rescue League of Boston (ARL) is a progressive animal welfare organization dedicated to rescuing domesticated animals and wildlife from suffering, cruelty, abandonment, and neglect.
The brutal treatment of horses, cats, and dogs first m...oved Anna Harris Smith to establish the ARL and open animal shelters throughout the state in 1899. Her philosophy that “kindness uplifts the world,” continues to inspire all the work the ARL does on behalf of animals in need.
With over 100 staff members and a dedicated corps of 500 volunteers, the ARL provides direct care to thousands of animals in need each year through our adoption centers in Boston, Brewster, and Dedham, rescue services and law enforcement teams, and shelter and community veterinary services.
The ARL is the only animal welfare organization in Massachusetts that has an emergency rescue services team dedicated to assisting domestic animals and wildlife in distress. Our law enforcement team serves as an additional resource to local authorities dealing with cruelty and neglect cases and issues.
The ARL offers high quality, affordable spay and neuter services on the South Shore and Cape Cod through our mobile Spay Waggin’.
