Sojourner’s mission is to transform lives impacted by domestic violence. Our overarching goal is to ensure the safety of individuals fleeing abuse, promote physical and emotional healing, and help place survivors on a path toward a secure and stable future. In 2016, we made more than 74,250 contacts with 9,750 women, men, and children in Greater Milwaukee. The vast majority of clients served were... extremely low-income women of color who reside in Milwaukee’s poorest neighborhoods. The New Family Peace Center: Sojourner’s vision has always been to provide seamless support and guidance to help survivors achieve freedom from abuse. In 2016 we opened our Family Peace Center providing survivors and their children with seamless access to an array of support services all under one roof. The Center is home to our crisis shelter, Education Center, Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin, and 10 co-located and several visiting partners. Onsite supervised children’s programing enables survivors who are utilizing services at the Center to meet privately with advocates knowing that their children will be safely cared for. Our new Center has already received national and international attention as the largest family justice center in the U.S. and one of the most comprehensive family justice centers in the world.
