Job Description
Net Impact, a global leader in the sustainable business movement, seeks an experienced, entrepreneurial, and ambitious Director of Development to provide leadership to its growing fundraising initiatives. Already raising $800,000 in gifts and grants annually towards an operating budget of $1.7 million, Net Impact’s strong growth and growing global reputation require a professionalization and formalization of its already considerable charitable and philanthropic efforts. We seek a strategic thinker as well as accomplished and proven fundraiser who can implement a “best practice” development program in a dynamic and increasingly global membership-based organization.

Key Roles and Responsibilities
  • To write and implement a detailed and measurable development plan in support of the organization’s mission and strategic plan.
  • To meet or exceed specific, agreed, annual metrics across the development program.
  • To build a strong pipeline of future gifts while meeting short term goals.
  • To put into place the infrastructure – technology, systems, processes, procedures, budget, etc. – which will support that plan, assure professionalism, and encourage “best practice.”
  • To significantly broaden and deepen Net Impact’s current support from corporations and foundations.
  • To grow the prospect pool to include individuals, especially high net worth individuals, who share the mission and vision of Net Impact.
  • To undertake targeted prospect identification and solicitation internationally in key, strategic countries and regions.
  • To support the Executive Director and maximize her considerable talents in the communication of the mission, vision, and case for support; and to support her in the successful cultivation and solicitation of leadership and major gifts.
  • To assist the Executive Director in the clarification of the role and relationship of fundraising with membership.
  • To supervise (mentor, lead, and monitor) a small team of dedicated fundraisers.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director

This is an exciting opportunity for a person committed to a career in development who wishes to tackle the full range of duties expected of a chief development officer and who desires to see both an immediate and a long term impact of his/her work in planning, managing, leading, and executing a development program.

  • A ‘self-starter’ with a high energy level consistent with the demands of ‘discovery calls’ and other efforts to increase significantly the quantity and quality of a diverse prospect pool.
  • Capacity to communicate verbally in a compelling, persuasive, and concise manner the exciting mission, vision, and plans of Net Impact with the goal of securing gifts, grants, and corporate investments.
  • Comfort with a very hands-on, collaborative, fast-paced, entrepreneurial, and opportunistic fundraising environment typical of “start-up” development operations, while at the same time bringing greater strategic and long-term deliberative discussion to the table.
