Job Description
The Translational Genomics Research Institute (TGen) is a non?profit biomedical research institute based in Phoenix, Arizona, focused on research that can help patients with cancer, neurological disorders, diabetes and other debilitating conditions. Working with a worldwide network of collaborators in the scientific and medical communities, TGen researchers study the genetic components of both common and complex diseases. Through genomic analysis, we learn how DNA, genes and proteins – the microscopic building block of life – can affect human health. Our 41 lead investigators and nearly 300 support personnel at sites in Phoenix, Scottsdale and Flagstaff, Arizona, are dedicated to improving patient care and quality of life through precision medicine, best defined as the right therapy, for the right patient, at the right time.

Brief Posting Description

A Director of Development designs, directs, manages, executes and oversees one or more specific fundraising or associated programs at the TGen Foundation. In addition the Director of Development may directly hire, train, direct, supervise and mentor one or more employees. Directors of Development are responsible for budget preparation, forecasts, marketing, promoting, executing and monitoring the accountability and success of their program(s). The TGen Foundation is seeking an experienced team member who has a proven track record of building relationships and who is a creative collaborator and comfortable in a new paradigm of nonprofit entrepreneurship, venture philanthropy, and understands the interface between non-profit objectives and business principles.

Detailed Description

• Cultivate and solicit gifts through the expert design, direction, management and oversight of one or more fundraising programs, with a focus on growth and quality. • Prepare and monitor budgets, forecasts and accountability measures. • Hire, train, mentor and manage direct reports. • Promote growth and enhanced success by marketing each program through presentations, written materials, website content and by developing and maintaining personal relationships. • Meet personally with major gift prospects, cultivating their involvement and giving. Mentor development team by assisting and advising fundraisers in various programmatic efforts • Model behaviors exemplary of a seasoned development professional including relationship building, project management and proposal development • Maintain a portfolio of qualified prospective major donors; have a proven track record of soliciting and closing six-figure gifts • Creative collaborator who is comfortable in a new paradigm of nonprofit entrepreneurship, venture philanthropy, and interface between non-profit objectives and business principles

NOTES:
Additional Salary Information: Salary is based on experience.

Requirements
Bachelor’s degree. Minimum three years, preferred three to ten years fundraising experience. Must have strong verbal and written communication skills, including proposal writing experience. Proven relationship building skills and track record in building programs and/or closing major gifts. Must be able to inspire confidence, cooperation and work well with others in a team environment. Overnight travel may be required; hours may include weekends and/or evenings.
