Job Description
Experienced, entrepreneurial Director of Development who will manage overall fundraising activities for Breastcancer.org, including development of significant, sustainable new sources of philanthropic and business revenue. Pivotal leadership role at Breastcancer.org. Must have strong capabilities and demonstrated successes in strategic direction, management, and execution of a national fundraising program. Will have direct responsibility for corporate solicitation, including identification and cultivation of the philanthropic and business corporate revenue opportunities. Will work in close collaboration with the President, CEO, other senior staff and key volunteers, including Board members, to achieve the $4 million+ fundraising goals of the organization.

S/he will have responsibility for all aspects of revenue generation and related communications including the following:

• Develops strategic vision for philanthropic revenue and business revenue, and manages execution of those strategies. Includes monetization of a highly trafficked website through new sources of revenue

• Manages the Development Department which includes staff for major gifts, events, foundations, online communications, direct mail, and administrative assistance

• Cultivates and solicits revenue from a portfolio of corporations, for both philanthropic and commercial revenue, including many six-figure relationships. Includes prospect identification

• Works collaboratively with the President, CEO, Board and senior management team to align fundraising with organizational needs and goals

• Develops annual and multi-year fundraising plans and campaigns

• Serves as primary liaison to the Board of Directors and its Revenue Committee

• Articulates, in writing and orally, compelling cases for generating revenue in a complex and competitive external fundraising environment

• Serves as key external spokesperson to relevant constituencies

• Oversees the strategy of all fundraising campaigns in addition to the design, production and distribution of the communications. Includes online and direct mail

• Develops and implements processes for all revenue generating activities, from planning to outcomes analysis

• Works closely with the Director of Operations to forecast and oversee departmental budget and projections

• Analyzes and interprets data to evaluate outcomes and develops/ refines strategies based on that information


Requirements
The successful candidate will have a proven track-record of success managing and mentoring an organization’s fundraising staff and activities while also directly generating corporate revenue from existing and new partners. Demonstrated success in major corporate partnership cultivation, including solicitation of philanthropic donations and development of new, sustainable revenue-generating opportunities. Strong capability for closing deals. Exemplary interpersonal and communications abilities. Outstanding management and implementation skills. Adept at juggling multiple priorities, ranging from high-level strategy to detail-oriented oversight of the various fundraising initiatives. A team-player comfortable and successful working both independently and in collaboration. High energy and ability to focus and thrive in a fast-paced environment.

• Strong commitment to the mission • Proven track-record of achieving or surpassing revenue targets • Over 10 years of fundraising experience and/or direct sales with an emphasis on corporate revenue generation • Over 5 years of management experience • Demonstrated success in strategic planning and management • Excellent writing and communications skills • Proven ability to develop multi-year, complex donor relationships • Prior experience with online fundraising and Web 2.0 engagement • Success with creating a highly-motivated, collaborative and goal-oriented department • B.A. required, advanced degree preferred • Experience in the nonprofit sector • Knowledge of breast health and breast cancer issues • Understanding of Internet-based health information websites • Experience with Raisers Edge and Convio • Willingness and ability to travel as necessary to fulfill role responsibilities Compensation and Benefits:

This position is full-time. Salary is commensurate with experience and includes excellent benefits. No relocation assistance is available.
