Job Description
Job Title: Assistant Director of Annual Giving FLSA Classification: Non-exempt Responsible To: Director of Annual Giving Last Modified: October 2009

Position Summary: The Assistant Director will support the Director of Annual Giving in the successful implementation of the Haverford School Annual Fund for alumni, current parents, parents of alumni, grandparents and friends. The Annual Fund is a combined face-to-face, mail, phone and on-line appeal to approximately 6,000 varied constituents to raise $1.5 million+ in annual unrestricted support for the School.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities • Assist with the design and creation of all annual fund material, including brochures, invitations, stewardship and solicitation letters; strong writing skills required. • Manage goals, execute strategies, and meet timetables for all components of the Annual Fund under the supervision of the Director of Annual Giving • Implement the timely distribution of all solicitation materials to all constituencies • Coordinate a phonathon program • Conduct face-to-face solicitations • Oversee stewardship of annual giving donors including written thanks and donor recognition programs (including bricks and plaques) • Assist with event planning, as required • Follow up with donors by mail, phone and in person, to ensure pledge fulfillment, including individual pledges and matching gift companies • Prepare and send/deliver progress reports for staff and key volunteers • Manage volunteers and work with volunteer leadership effectively to reach annual fund goals • Specifically, work with Director of Annual Giving and the Director of Alumni Programs to cultivate and build personal relationships with alumni volunteers and class agents o Report regularly to volunteers on the progress of the total program, as well their specific class, cohort or assignments o Visit class agents regionally as required to maintain and strengthen leadership volunteer relationships o Personally solicit volunteers and help coordinate their own peer solicitations through individual visits • Other duties, as assigned

Requirements
Minimum Acceptable Qualifications • Bachelor’s Degree • Minimum 1-3 years experience working in annual funds or related area of non-profit development, including some direct solicitation experience • Excellent organization and interpersonal skills • Excellent oral and written communication skills; strong writing skills • High comfort level working with a great variety of donors, volunteers, parents and alumni of all ages and gift levels • High energy level and proactive approach to work • Ability to function in a fast-paced environment • Ability to work effectively as part of a team • Strong computer literacy using the latest versions of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and mail merges; email and web searches as well as familiarity with data entry, data retrieval, and relational database software • Flexibility and ability to work evenings and weekends • Appreciation of single-sex Independent School education

Physical Requirements and Work Environment • Occasionally lift up to 30 pounds • Generally works in standard office conditions and climate • Turn, bend, reach and occasionally use a ladder • May work in varied extreme outside weather conditions during special activities and fundraising events • Works in a fast-paced environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines and a varied and diverse array of contacts • May work at a desk and computer for extended periods of time
