Job Description
The American Cancer Society, South Atlantic Division seeks an experienced Area Executive Director. This position will be assigned to the Vienna, VA office and it will serve Northern VA.

**Candidate should have proven record in constitutent relationship management with high impact donors, corporate and community leaders highly desired. Strong management leadership skills relating to staff and volunteer managment.**

Major Duties and Responsibilities: • Leads and directs area/metro field operations focusing on current strategic and business plan objectives in the delivery of income and mission delivery goals and objectives utilizing community leadership volunteers. • Motivates and leads a high performance team through effective recruitment, selection, hiring, coaching, development, ongoing training, empowerment, guidance and accountability of direct reports. • Direct accountability for meeting and/or exceeding income and mission goals for the area and for identifying and pursuing future growth opportunities. • Provides leadership and directs the development of key markets to ensure income growth in order to achieve and exceed goals and objectives including existing and future income streams. • Ensures that there are adequate leadership volunteers to effectively implement South Atlantic Division (SAD) programs, services and income development. • Prioritizes issues and makes decisions in terms of their relevance to the priorities of the Division's and State’s identified primary goals and objectives. • Effectively manages operating budget and cost containment/stewardship efforts, makes business based decisions; maintains accurate files, submits timely and accurate reports; meets timelines, follows through; apprises State VP of status; provides viable & innovative solutions to problems; attends meetings/trainings, adheres to approved policy/procedure, represents the organization in a professional manner; makes effective presentations. • Serves as a lead contributing member of the State’s Management Team and provides input and makes recommendations to the State Vice President by channeling Field input on Division's operating initiatives, plans, and activities; and seeks innovative ways to deliver mission and income objectives. Encourages staff and volunteers to seek out and identify opportunities to decrease disparities in underserved populations. Communicates and coordinates those opportunities within the Division through the State Vice President. • Serves as a lead contributing member of the State’s Management Team and provides input and makes recommendations to the State Vice President by channeling Field input on Division's operating initiatives, plans, and activities; and seeks innovative ways to deliver mission and income objectives. • Proactively guides staff and volunteers to seek out and identify opportunities to decrease disparities in underserved populations and to build effective partnerships with relevant key groups and relevant initiatives. Requirements
Minimum Qualifications: • Bachelor's Degree in Business/Public Administration and 6+ years related work experience in field operations, fundraising and volunteer management or an equivalent combination of education and experience • Reliable transportation required

Other Desirable Qualifications: • Demonstrated experience in supervising others and leading high performance teams Experience in strategic planning. • Communications/Marketing, Staff Development, Fundraising, Business and Volunteer management experience in non-profit environment. (preferred American Cancer Society field experience). • Demonstrated experience in developing and negotiating key partnerships with businesses, health providers, schools, civic and faith based organizations etc. • Demonstrated leadership and communication skills.

Hiring range: $66,834 - $77,694 Closing date to apply: November 13, 2009
